Konami said it’s open to remaking otherMetal Geargames after wrapping up work onMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. This bit of insight into the company’s plans for the future of the iconic franchise arrived days after Konami officiallyannounced the long-rumoredMetal Gear Solid 3remake.

Konami’s confirmation that a big part of the series' development team is involved in the remake inspired hope among the fandom thatMetal Gear Solid Deltacan capture the original’s magic. And while it remains to be seen whether that comes to pass, it has now become clear that theMetal Gear Solid 3remake will greatly influence the long-term future of the franchise.

In a recent statement provided to IGN, a Konami spokesperson said that the company very much intends to “listen to player demand” for remakes of other games in the franchise besidesMetal Gear Solid 3. In fact, the Japanese developer already started doing so, with its representative elaborating that this is exactly howMetal Gear Solid Deltahappened; while some might have expected Konami to start remaking the series withMGS1, the fandom was apparently most eager to reexperience theorigin story ofMetal Gear’sBig Bosswhich serves as a prequel to all other games in the franchise.

Based on that stated approach to revisiting the series, and assumingMetal Gear Solid Deltais positively received by the fandom, it’s possible that Konami follows up on the upcoming game with a remake ofMetal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. That critically acclaimed title is still stuck on the PS3, whose unique microprocessor architecture likely prevented it from easily being ported to other platforms, as was the case with every other installment, includingthe original twoMetal Geargames. As a result, many fans spent years calling for Konami to remakeMGS4, though apparently not as many as those that asked for a new version ofSnake Eater.

The possibility that Konami turns to revisitMGS4after it finishes theSnake Eaterremake is all the more likely becauseGuns of the Patriotsis expected to be the only title missing fromMetal Gear Solid: Master Collection. The bundle’s first volume was announced at the latest PlayStation Showcase, with Konami revealing it will include the first five games in the franchise, ranging from the 1987Metal Gearto the 2004Snake Eater. Since past reports suggested that the second volume will coverMGS5and spin-offs likeMetal Gear Rising: Revengeance, the fandom is likely to highlightMGS4as the installment that’s the most in need of a revisit following the release ofMetal Gear Solid Delta.
