On April 8,Call of Duty: Modern Warfarereceived a big update that introduced the first batch ofSeason 3’s new content, along with various other fixes and changes. Players this past week have been putting those changes through their paces, and in the process, they’ve found that Infinity Ward has changed up more weapons than the patch notes would’ve had them believe.
This is nothing new, of course. Players have been finding hidden additions toModern Warfarefor months now, and this latest discovery isn’t even the firsthidden feature found in Season 3. That being said, this one might be easy for most players to miss completely, since it focuses on a specific aspect of the Combat Knife.

Most players will probably know by now that smaller weapons like the Knife and pistols have the benefit ofincreasing movement speed when held, as opposed to heavier primary weapons. For the last few months, though, more players have favored using pistols for their speed-boosting secondaries, as they offer a more viable means of fighting back against any enemies they run into.
But according to Handler on YouTube, the Combat Knife has gotten a bit of an upgrade that should make it a more desirable option. According to their findings, followingModern Warfare’s April 8 update, players are now able to pull off a tactical sprint for four seconds when holding the Knife, as opposed to just two seconds when holding a pistol. On top of that, Handler states that their tests found that tactical sprinting with the Knife is now a third of a second faster than with a pistol.
That might not seem all too big an improvement, compared to some ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare’s other secret buffs, but then again,Modern Warfareis one of the most fast-paced shooters out there. Speed is one of the most important elements throughout all of the game’s multiplayer modes, and the difference between victory and defeat can depend just as much on securing the best positioning first as being able to shoot well.
There’s no clue as to why Infinity Ward made this change, or how many more parts of the game have been secretly changed, but at the very least, it means players now have something new to try out.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
