Max Caulfield’s Powers in Life is Strange

As the protagonist of the veryfirstLife is Strangegame, Max Caulfield’s abilities are some of the most explored in the series. Over the course of the fiveLife is Strangeepisodes, Max demonstrates a range of different supernatural powers, all related to the manipulation of time. The first of these powers to manifest is a lucid vision of the future, in which Max’s town of Arcadia Bay is destroyed by a cataclysmic storm. Max receives a few other visions throughout the course of the game, all foreshadowing the tornado.

After witnessing the vision for the first time, Max gains access to her most commonly used power, the ability to reverse time. Max’s Rewind ability is a core gameplay mechanicthroughoutLife is Strange’s story, allowing players to retry conversations with new information and new choices. Max retains the knowledge of what happened in each timeline, as well as remaining in a fixed position while time moves around her. This can give her the appearance of teleporting, as she can appear and disappear in an instant.

Later in theLife is Strangestory,Max discovers the ability to freeze timewhile still moving normally. Although powerful, this ability is much more taxing on her than rewinding, causing her nose to bleed and leaving her unable to rewind for a time afterwards.

Daniel Diaz’s Powers in Life Is Strange 2

The abilities of Daniel Diaz inLife is Strange 2are actually first revealed inThe Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, the free standalone game from Dontnod Entertainment. ThroughoutCaptain Spiritthe young protagonist pretends to have telekinetic abilities, and at the end of the game he actually does seem to display them when he falls from a ladder and stops before he hits the ground. However, it’s later revealed that this was actually due to the intervention of Daniel Diaz, one of the main characters inLife is Strange 2.

Daniel is the brother of Sean Diaz, theplayable character ofLife is Strange 2, and has telekinetic abilities. Daniel first displayed these abilities after witnessing a police officer accidentally shoot his father, causing him to destroy  part of the neighborhood and kill the police officer. At first Daniel only has rudimentary control over his powers, and it’s mostly triggered by emotional outbursts. In addition, he often pushes himself too far and blacks out, losing his memories for a short period. However, as the game goes on he displays increasing control and resilience.

By the end ofLife is Strange 2Daniel is capable of incredible feats of telekinetic ability, such as throwing multiple cars into the air and tearing through the US-Mexico border wall. Daniel is several years younger than Max inLife is Strange, and it may be that his powers will continue developing as he ages.

TheLife is Strangeseries will return withLife is Strange: True Colorsthis September, featuring a brand new protagonist with a supernatural ability. It’s also possible that the third title will help to tie together the first two games, and shed some light on the nature of these powers.
