AMass Effectplayer has shown off a mod that allows players to avoid picking between Kaiden and Ashley. TheMass Effectseries is no stranger to presenting players with hard choices, but sometimes it’s better to have the option for a happier ending.

Whileplayer choice is at the heart of theMass Effectgames, not every choice is easy to make. Although not every decision will have long-lasting consequences, the great thing about theMass Effectgames is that it’s hard to know exactly what will and what won’t, always keeping players on their toes. When the series was first released, it set a gold standard for RPGs having lasting consequences, and became one of the first to attempt it across a trilogy. While it wasn’t always successful, when it worked, it was some of the most impactful video game writing of all time.

The post was made by Redditor Ghost_Hunter45, who is using the Virmire Savior mod to avoid making the decision of saving Ashley or Kaidan. With thisMass Effectmod, players are able to save both, and there’s even special dialogue included about Shepard managing the feat that seems to be salvaged from the game’s cut content. As love interests, Ashley and Kaidan are some of the more interestingMass Effectcharacters, and it’s always a shame to have to lose one so early in a Trilogy run that can span hundreds of hours. However, that’s no longer the case with this mod.

Among players in the thread, there was some concern about how it would impactMass Effect 2and3, with the future games not designed to have both alive at the same time. Luckily, the Redditor pointed out that the Virmire Survivor mod is also available for the other two games, with every eventuality planned for by the mod author. According to the user, the pair even both show up inMass Effect 3’s incredible Citadel DLC, and while they might not be able to interact with each other due to mod limitations, it’s still good to have both hanging around for the party.

WhenMass Effect 4finally releases, it’s currently unknown if BioWare plans to canonize a Virmire survivor. With fan-favorite characterLiara seemingly confirmed forMass Effect 4, it’s clear that the developer plans to touch upon the original trilogy characters to some degree, so it will be interesting to see how it handles the Virmire situation. With the game likely still years from release, BioWare has some time yet to come to the best conclusion for the story.
