The Brachydios is one of the harder monsters to fight inMonster Hunter World. It’s fast for a monster of its size, and it hits hard and wide. If its physical abilities aren’t bad enough, it can also coat the ground and itself with explosive mucous, further complicating the fight.
Like with all other monsters, the Brachydios has its fair share of weaknesses. Bringing the right gear and knowing this monster’s behavior are the keys to successfully taking it down. Here’s a quick guide covering both of those.
Brachydios Weakness and Strategies
The Brachydios has a three-star weakness toIceand a two-star weakness toWater. It is completelyimmune to Fire damage, and it’s got one-star resistance ratings against Thunder and Dragon. Bringingan Ice or Water weaponis highly recommended, as it canwash off the explosive slimeon the Brachydios' hands. The same can be achieved with Puddle Pod Slinger ammo taken from Watermoss.
Speaking of slime, whenever Brachydios' hands are covered by it, the monster will leave patches of green slime on the ground. Try not to walk over these, as they’ll slow your movement, deal a bit of chip damage, and possibly inflictBlastblight. The slime will eventually explode, though the Brachydios can manually trigger said explosions with its attacks.
To start, focus onbreaking the Brachydios' handsas soon as possible. This prevents the monster from coating itself in slime, potentially making the later portions of the hunt easier. If you’re having trouble breaking its hands, tenderize its legs and keep hitting the softened part until the monster trips. Then, tenderize the hands and attack until they break. Once the hands are broken, aim for the head.If you’re using a Longswordor Greatsword, cut the tail off first before chopping off the rest of its parts.
Keep in mind that you can shake Blastblight off by rolling a few times. You’ll want to get rid of it quickly, because with this status condition, getting hit while surrounded by the menacing powder will make you explode. If Blastblight is giving you issues, equipBlast Resistance 3to completely prevent this ailment from building up on you.
Beating a Brachydios mostly boils downto learning its moves. One thing to remember is that it usually leaves itself open for a decent amount of time after it performs its attacks. Bait the Brachydios into attacking, dodge away, then move in while it’s recovering. Rinse and repeat until it goes down.
