Debuting earlier today with an action-packed trailer, Nintendo revealed that a new entry inThe Legend of Zeldafranchise calledHyrule Warriors: Age of Calamitywould look to expand the series lore later this year. The events of the game tie directly intoBreath of the Wild, and see Link, Zelda, and the rest of the Champions fighting back against Ganon 100 years prior to the events of that title.
Those wondering when more details about the title will be available are in luck, however, with Nintendo promising thatAge of Calamitywill be getting more details on September 26. The confirmation comes from the end of the trailer, with the game promising a “new update” in just over two weeks' time.

It’s great to hear that more news about the game is on the way soon, with Nintendo clearly looking for a ramped-up marketing drive forAge of Calamityheading into this holiday season. Of course, the game actually hits shelves in November, so if Nintendo is looking to truly market this as a huge end of year title, it would be wise to spend the remaining weeks revealing tons of new information about the newestZeldarelease. With the announcement, Nintendo’s 2020 holiday lineup is beginning to take better form, withAge of CalamityandSuper Mario 3D All-Starsseemingly being its two heaviest hitters for the season.
For those who missed the game’s announcement, the title will follow Zelda and Link as they battle Ganon’s forces in intense, over the top action setpieces, with the game standing as the next entry in theHyrule Warriorsseries. This time though, the game will be canon, and looks to flesh out the events that lead toThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. With Nintendo often opting to take a hands-off approach to storytelling and building the wider universe of theZeldafranchise, it’s interesting to see the company go all in on the narrative and deliver what appears to be a fairly story-focused prequel.
Alongside the news, there was also a brief update onThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2,with Nintendo claiming that the game is still in development and fans still need to wait for some more concrete details. Interestingly, the disclaimer about the title did come with a hint towards a focus of the sequel, with Eiji Aonuma stating “in order to make the vast world you enjoyed exploring in the original game even more impressive, the team is working hard on its development,” indicating that fans will likely be returning to a modified take on the first game’s map.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamitywill be available on November 20 for Nintendo Switch.
