There seems to be a new release forSonic Originscoming out in the near future. This is due to a recent rating that appeared from the South Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC), similar to the ESRB. Ratings from associations like this are usually for games coming out relatively soon, which results in the names of games being revealed earlier than intended. This can be seen with this possible collection, known asSonic Origins Plus. The game hasn’t been formally announced yet by Sega.Sonic Originswas released last summer, and it compiles four classicSonic the Hedgehoggames into one package. It added a few new features as well as animated cutscenes that aimed to tie all of them into a singular narrative. It even had Headcannon, the development team behind the critically acclaimedSonic Mania, involved in its development. The current state of the game however has been decidedly mixed, where evena developer from Headcannon was unhappy withSonic Origins. Despite this, it seems like Sega is gearing up for a new version of the game based on this rating.RELATED:Sonic Colors: Ultimate Surprise Launched on SteamNot much is known aboutSonic Origins Plus, other than that it could release sometime soon. The “Plus” part of the title indicates that this release is following the same pattern astheSonic Mania Plusre-release, being an enhanced version of the base game with additional content. This content was added as DLC for those who already owned the vanillaSonic Maniagame. The “Plus” version also resulted in the game getting a physical release on consoles after being digital-only at first, so there’s a possibility thatSonic Originscan follow suit and see a physical release.
In terms of possible additional content forSonic Origins Plus, new playable characters could be added, consideringSonic Mania Plusadded Mighty and Ray to the roster. Of the possible choices, Amy Rose and Metal Sonic seem possible, consideringAmy’s awkward omission from the playable roster ofOriginsand Metal Sonic being a fan-favorite character. More games likeSonic SpinballorKnuckles Chaotixcould also be added to this new version, though all of this is speculation at this time.
It’s worth noting that some fans have said that there are still a lot ofissues withSonic Originsin its current state. This includes the lackluster replacement music inSonic 3 & Knuckles, the new physics, microtransactions, and other bugs that fans have taken umbrage with. Fans hope that Sega and Sonic Team address these things in this possible re-release.
