Ubisoft’s next entry in the long-runningAssassin’s Creedseries,Assassin’s Creed Valhalladoesn’t really hit the 60 FPS mark on NVIDIA’s most powerful graphics card in the market currently: GeForce RTX3090. A video posted by GameGPU featuring the game’s in-built benchmark-setting seems to confirm that.

Assassin’s Creed Valhallais Ubisoft’s 12th main instalment in this immensely popular franchise. The game builds upon the foundation laid by 2018’sAssassin’s Creed Originsand 2019’sAssassin’s Creed Odyssey, both of which leaned heavily towards the action RPG genre. Developed by theOriginsteam,Valhallaseems to take it a step further with newfeatures such as Settlement Building, that has an uncanny resemblance to the Skyhold in 2014’sDragon Age Inquisition.

While being a cross-generational title,Assassin’s Creed Valhallaon GeForce RTX 3090 runs mostly at 56 FPS,  4K ultra settings, which may not seem like an issue to some. What’s concerning is the occasional drop-ins to a jarring 40 FPS in densely populated areas. Interestingly, there’s no word on how well the game runs at AMD’s most powerful card: 6900 XT, at 4K Ultra setting.

It’s not just the PC version ofAssassin’s Creed Valhallathat’s struggling. On the next-gen consoles, the game runs at anupscaled 4K resolution. While the game is confirmed to be running at 60 FPS on both Xbox Series X and PS5, it will be interesting to see how steady that turns out to be.

With the on-going pandemic, it isn’t surprising to see a lot of games struggle with a few issues here and there. WithCyberpunk 2077being delayedfor the third time this year, performance issues such as the ones inAssassin’s Creed Valhallashouldn’t be much of a deal-breaker, especially considering the fact that Ubisoft has three big, AAA games to focus on this holiday season withWatch Dogs Legion’sPC and current-gen variants already out in the wild. Moreover, these performance issues can always be solved with a day one patch.

Although it is inevitably a matter of discussion as to why these next-gen systems and GPU’s are not able to outshine these cross-generation games, which as of now are not even utilizing these systems' full potential. BluePoint Games' upcoming remake of 2009’sDemon’s Soulsalso suffers from a similar issue. Even though it looks magnificent with its grim, claustrophobic corridors nothing but eye candy,Demon’s Soulslack ray tracing, that is supposedly one of the biggest next-gen features.

Assassin’s Creed Valhallalaunches November 10, for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S while the PS5 version launches two days later on November 12.
