Summary
Recently released footage of the upcomingMarvel’s Spider-Man 2shows a new aspect of one of the game’s many alternate suits - an aspect that many fans will likely appreciate. The massive selection of alternate suits in bothMarvel’s Spider-ManandMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Moraleswas among the best features in those games, andMarvel’s Spider-Man 2is looking to expandupon this wide array of suits on multiple levels.
In many ways,Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is a continuation of what made the first two entries in Insomniac’s series so successful. The upcoming superhero action game is set to flesh out the stories of both Peter and Miles, introducing iconic comic characters like Harry Osborn and Kraven the Hunter. The epic story will be the backdrop against which the satisfying movement and combat gameplay will be set, and while that gameplay will look familiar to fans of the first two games, it will also be receiving some significant changes. One of the most talked-about additions isSpider-Man 2’sWeb Wings feature, which will allow for new traversal options, especially within the game’s new, more low-profile locales.

Web Wing Appearance Will Likely Change with Different Spider-Man Suits
Recently surfaced gameplay footage ofMarvel’s Spider-Man 2shows a player swinging through the city in the Spider-Falcon suit. The suit is similar to Spider-Man’s classic red-and-blue costume, but with a decidedly more tactical appearance, complete with military fatigues, straps, and pouches. It’s rather stylish and impressive-looking, but the most interesting part of the video comes when the player activates the suit’s Web Wings.
The Web Wings of the Spider-Falcon suit are clearly in a different style from the Wings of the base suit; they are more rigid and high-tech in appearance, in contrast to their standard, wingsuit-like look. This suggests that Web Wings could be different for all ofMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s many suits. If this is truly the case, then it is sure to make the experience of collecting and swapping suits even more gratifying than in the first two games, as there will be an added layer to discover in each alternate design. It’s likely that this will be the case, as it would be surprising for the Spider-Falcon suit to be the only one with distinct Web Wings.
Just how much the Web Wings will differ from one another is another question. Insomniac has stated that there will be 65 suits for players to collect when the game launches, not including the alternate color variations that will be available for each suit, so designing new Web Wings for each different outfit would be quite a tall order. It’s also worth noting thatMarvel’s Spider-Man 2will adapt suitsfrom several differentSpider-Manstories, and not all the suits will be as far removed from the hero’s classic costume as the Spider-Falcon suit; the metallic, military design of the Spider-Falcon suit sets the stage for the wildly different Web Wings, whereas more traditional Spider-Man suit variants will probably have similarly traditional-looking Web Wings.
Nonetheless, the idea of each new suit having appropriately themed Web Wings will likely come as a surprise for many fans. It’s a particularly interesting idea because most suits in the Spider-Man canon are devoid of Web Wings, which means that Insomniac could be designing original Web Wings for many suits, essentially inventing entirely new versions of those costumes. It’s clear thatMarvel’s Spider-Man 2is visually impressive, and the unique designs of each alternate suit serve to underline this commitment to high-quality, aesthetically pleasing visuals. With or without unique Web Wings, the suits inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2are sure to be at least as impressive as the suits in the previous two games.
