Outridersis an action-packed looter shooter. As such, many fans outright ignore the overarching plot and dedicate all of their attention to the gameplay itself. With innovative healing mechanics,very unusual endgame, and many other aspects that refresh the looter-shooter loop, it’s no surprise that players flock to it at the expense ofOutriders’plotline.

Not paying attention to the game’s story and its main characters is a mistake, though.Outridersstands out from other titles in the genre because it’s not a live service game, and itsplotline was meticulously developedby a team of talented writers. In fact, there are some main character backstories that are so good that they deserve their own spin-offs.
10Sybilla May Flores Created The Outriders Unit
The titular elite unit was initially tasked with landing on Enoch before the S.M. Flores space shuttle. They were conceptualized and created by the very person who gave rise to the idea of transporting 500,000 humans to another planet in an attempt to save the human race from inevitable extinction.
Many ridiculed Sybilla May Flores at first for her radical approach to saving humanity. However, in the end, she turned out to be right. By developing an elite unit of trained fighters to scout Enoch’s surface before the shuttle’s landing, she did her best to secure humanity’s survival.
9Jakub Dąbrowski Was A War Refugee
Jakub is an incredibly likable character, with an exceptional sense of humor. As such, he inevitably became a fan favorite. However, his past on Earth was not one that fans would expect to favor the formation of such a warm and fun personality.

After losing both of his parents during the Siege of Warsaw, Jakub grew up on the streets until he managed to flee his home country of Poland. He ended up in the United States, where he found a job as a mercenary driver and mechanic under the leadership of Jack Tanner, the leader of the Outriders. This is also how he met the player character for the first time.
8Shira Gutmann Got A Rare University Education
Contrary to Jakub’s upbringing, Shira Gutmann had a safe and secure upbringing as a teenager through young adulthood. She was the daughter of one of S.M. Flores' head engineers, who managed to help her get out of Tel Aviv (where she was born) before war tore Israel torn apart. She ended up in Canada and studied Engineering in Montreal.
When Shira attended university, higher education was rapidly becoming a thing of the past. Montreal was one of the last cities that still supported these schools. It only goes to show how influential Shira’s family was during the years and months leading up to the Apocalypse.
7Abraham Zahedi Is One Of The Last Real Scientists
Throughout the thirty years of civil war on Enoch, preserving the scientific method and the principles that governed science for centuries prior to Earth’s downfall was not high on anyone’s list of priorities.
Except for Dr Abraham Zahedi, that is. He’s devoted most of his time on Enoch to studying the Anomaly and its effects on people. He was ten years old when he boarded the Flores with his father, who passed down his knowledge to young Abraham. Becoming the last beacon of science was also Zahedi’s means of survival – otherwise, he’d have to take part in the ongoing conflict. And as he admitted himself, he wouldn’tlast a day on the battlefield.
6The Player Character Was A Mercenary On Earth
The Outrider had a pretty colorful past back on Earth. They served as a mercenary under Jack Tanner, where, alongside Jakub Dąbrowski, they’ve gone through a fair share of adventures. Most of them have beenextremely dangerous and violent.

They spent nine months in a Syrian prison, and barely made it out of Venezuela while on a rescue mission. These just two highlights of the Outrider’s lustrous career as part of a band of mercenaries, who sold their services to the highest bidders.
5Shira’s Father Gave His Spot On The S.M. Flores To Her
As previously mentioned, Shira Guttman’s family were some of the most powerful people on the planet during humanity’s last months on Earth. This is mainly thanks to her father being one of the lead engineers of the Flores shuttle, humankind’s last chance of survival.
As one of the chief designers, he had a spot on the shuttle ready and waiting for him. In an incredibly selfless gesture, he gave it up for the sake of his daughter, Shira, hoping to lead her to a brighter future. Unfortunately, she ended up spending over thirty years in a warzone. Yet in doing so, she’s proven more than capable of handling the difficulties life on Enoch has thrown her way.
4Channa Takeuchi Was Born During The First Anomaly Storm
Talk about destiny. Channa Takeuchi is a key character inOutriders.As an Anomaly Oracle, she is more familiar than anyone else with the mysterious force that looms over Enoch.

Her fortune-telling abilities and relationship with the Anomaly are no coincidence. Takeuchi was born on the day humans on Enoch witnessed the very first Anomaly storm. This day began the sequence of events that led to endless military conflict, which has continued to ravage the planet throughout Channa’s life.
3Victor Corrigan’s Father Oversaw The Industrial Zone
Much like Shira Guttman’s dad, Corrigan’s father was a hot-shot engineer back on Earth. Upon humanity’s arrival on Enoch, he was assigned to a multitude of high-profile projects, crucial for the colonization process.
One of these projects was the Industrial Zone, which was supposed to be the backbone of Enoch’s economy. Unfortunately, a meltdown of one of the engines killed Corrigan senior. His son, along with refugees from the Industrial Zone, has established an independent outpost near the ruins. Victor Corrigan’s father’s standing surely must have played a role in his becoming the Grand Marshal of Trenchtown.
2Sergio Acosta Went Rogue Because Of Maxwell’s Actions
Sergio Acosta may have turned his back on the ECA and the Outriders. However, it’s only because he had the guts to openly oppose Charles Maxwell and his treatment of the Outriders unit after they came across the first signs of the Anomaly.
Maxwell’s mistreatment of the Outriders did not turn Acosta rogue right away. Rather, it was the first spark that led to Sergio losing trust in the Enoch Colonization Authority. Eventually, he ended up leading a group of like-minded rebels to hide away in a bunker in the Quarry for years.
1Alastair Cullen Has A Lot Of Blood On His Hands
When players first encounter Alastair Cullen inOutriders,he is the Overseer of the lumber operation in Deadrock Pass. The reason he ended up there is a pretty sinister one, to say the least.
Back in humanity’s early days on Enoch, Cullen was an ECA Lieutenant posted in the First City. He followed the order to shut down the city gates, effectively locking out thousands of the people who occupied the slums outside of the town. The desperate crowds pushed to enter the city, which is when Alastair Cullen snapped and opened fire on the impoverished men, women, and children. His only option to get away from court-martial was accepting the job at the dangerous and faraway Deadrock Pass outpost.
