Orsi announced that the HBO team was excited to keep working on the program, remarking in her statement: “It has been an exciting journey to work with the immensely talented team behindPerry Mason, viewers have relished being transported back in time to 1930’s Los Angeles each week, and we are thrilled to welcome the show back for a second season.” The announcement comes after the show launched to HBO’s highest premiere ratings in just under two years.

As one ofHBO’s new projects featuring beloved IP’s,Perry Masonis aremake of the original legal dramaled by Raymond Burr for CBS. The new HBO show begins with Perry Mason (Matthew Rhys) as a struggling private investigator, transitioning later in the season into the lawyer role fans are more familiar with. Rhys, best known to viewers from his role onThe Americans, is joined by John Lithgow as Perry’s old friend E.B. Jonathan, and Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) as religious figure Sister Alice.

Notably,Perry Masonwas originally billed as a limited run-series for HBO, with the cast carefully avoiding promises of a continuation. When asked about it previously, Matthew Rhys commented, “The commission was a limited series. They’ve talked about a second series, but I think that’s dependent on how this first one broadcasts. But at the time, that’s all there was, and that’s all they set out to do, initially, to see how it does.”

It seems however, thatPerry Masonhas done quite well indeed, giving HBO the confidence to order a second season with little hesitation. Whether or not the show will continue even further however, is still up in the air, and presumably depends on how well the second season preforms. When the time comes for that decision to be made, hopefullyPerry Masonwill have strong defense, and lots of witnesses to back him up. Until then, fans are guaranteed at least two seasons of investigations with  familiar faceswherever they can use HBO Max.

Perry Masonis currently available on HBO Max, with a second season on the way.
