Sunday morning ThePokemonCompany officially announced that thePokemonfranchise’s next major releases would arrive in late 2022.Pokemon ScarletandPokemon Violetwill takePokemonfans to a new region based on Spain, offering up the main series' first open world to explore. It’s an occasion to celebrate and The Pokemon Company is doing just that. Starting today inPokemon Brilliant DiamondandPokemon Shining Pearl, a special limited-time mythicalPokemonevent for a freePokemonwill be available.
Nintendo SwitchPokemonplayers will soon be able to acquire the mythicalPokemonShaymin. There’s nothing complicated about it. AllPokemon Brilliant DiamondandPokemon Shining Pearlplayers will have to do is access their game’s Mystery Gift option. Shaymin will be available via a letter from Professor Oak and will go directly into players' collections. It may not be a very interactive mythicalPokemonevent, but it’s still a very nice reward.

As with all such legendary and mythicalPokemonevents, the Shaymin availability will only be accessible for a limited time. Shaymin will officially unlock today, February 27, and will remain available through March 27th. A full month should be plenty of time forPokemon Brilliant DiamondandPokemon Shining Pearlplayers to access theirMystery Gifts. Be wary of putting it off and forgetting, however. Time will run out faster than it feels like.
Shaymin is a unique mythicalPokemonthat was introduced in the original fourth generation ofPokemongames,Diamond,Pearl, andPlatinum. It’s fitting that they’re being brought back for the new remakes, especially given that Shaymin has two formes, itself.Shaymin is a grass-typePokemonwith a base land forme that looks like a white hedgehog with green grass growing on top of it. If given a Gracidea flower during the daytime, Shaymin can change into its sky forme, a grass/flying-typePokemonthat looks like a terrier puppy.
What makes this mythicalPokemonevent so exciting is that Shaymin is a surprisingly rare Pokemon. It has only been available in the Americas in 2009, 2010, and 2016, the latest forPokemon’s 20th Anniversary. Though, to be fair, it was alsooffered toPokemon Legends: Arceusplayerswho hadPokemon SwordandShieldsave data. Regardless, this could be the last opportunity to pick it up for years into the future.
Shaymin should provide an excellent reason forPokemon Brilliant DiamondandPokemon Shining Pearlplayers to return to the game, if only for a spell. WithPokemon Legends: ArceusovershadowingBrilliant DiamondandShining Pearl, this should reinvigorate the remakes' communities. It’s going to be a long wait forPokemon ScarletandPokemon Violet, after all.
