A Redditor known as tomvdcr posted an image of a Pokedex DS that they made. The handheld is a DS Lite that was made to look like a Pokedex fromGeneration 4 ofPokemon. According to the user, this was their 12th custom-built machine and that they can now make them in about 10 hours. Tomvdcr stated that the Pokedex DS is made by trimming the inside of a Jakks Pacific toy shell and fitting the console inside of it. The Redditor stated that they do make them on commission, but that they are currently not taking requests as the order list is currently full.
The Pokedex DS that tomvdcr made has garnered a number of fans and sits at over 12,000 upvotes. While many commenters stated that the piece of hardware does look cool, they do wonder how comfortable it is to play games on it. One fan asked if tomvdcr had any videos displaying how the Pokedex DS was made, to which the user replied that they do on their TikTok which shares the same name as their Reddit account. Tomvdcr is not the only one creating custom Pokedex devices. One Redditor going by the name QueenLa3fah posted a clip of acustom Game Boy cartridgethat they made that functions as a Pokedex. The cartridge is Wi-Fi enabled, and can look up information on any pocket monster that the user types in. The short video that was posted shows a search for Bulbasaur being input into the Game Boy, which was followed by a number of facts on the Pokemon coming up on the device’s screen. QueenLa3fah and Tomvdcr’s pieces are impressive, mixing together both old and new technology that can keep the interest of anyPokemonfan.
