The PokeStops and Gyms inPokemon GOhave been a pivotal part of the game’s experience since launch, but often came with the problem of less populated areas lacking in these critical locations. While the Wayspot system has since allowed players to submit locations to be turned into PokeStops and Gyms, Niantic is now going to askPokemon GOplayers to complete a separate taskbefore being able to file these submissions.

Previously, players simply had to reach level 38 to activate the Wayspot system and begin turning local spaces into hubs for capturing and fighting Pokemon. However, a new change has been implemented worldwide to ensure thatPokemon GOplayers are better aware of the specific rules to creating these locations before being able to submit.

The big difference now being rolled out with the Wayspot submission system is that players will now be required to complete the Wayfarer test to participate. This really means that Niantic is trying to verify that players trying to file submissions are aware of the guidelines for categorizing PokeStops and Gyms, while also being aware of what is and isn’t allowed to be submitted. While it is an extra loop to jump through, it still offers players in areas that don’t have as many of these locations to better experiencePokemon GO’s social eventsand gameplay by adding more places to interact.

Fortunately for anyone who has already passed the Wayfarer test as well, Niantic will not be requiring anyone to take it again in order to start submitting locations. So, for the players that have already met the necessary criteria, they can continue making Wayspot submissions as they have before thechange was implemented toPokemon GO. This update appears to be more geared towards getting new players up to date on what is eligible to be submitted, such as public spaces and notable landmarks.

Much of the response to this change has so far been very positive, as players are hoping that this will cut down on submissions that either don’t meet current guidelines or are for uninteresting places. While some aren’t entirely happy with how the Wayfarer test is currently set up, this appears to be well received by thePokemon GOcommunityas a whole. Hopefully, this will also help to make the game more enjoyable for those players who don’t have access to the more densely populated areas that already have a wide variety of Wayspots to interact with.
