Pokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearlare out in the wild, with fans diving back into Sinnoh. Of course, in a few months, players will be venturing intoHisui inPokemon Legends: Arceus— with Hisui being the ancient name for Sinnoh when it was discovered and settled by humans. This makes these games very closer already, but now a new teaser forPokemon Legends: Arceushas seemingly been discovered inBDSP.
Fans know very little aboutPokemon Legends: Arceus, but several of its additions have been shown off, particularly of its Hisuian variants. These are likely older forms that slowly became irrelevant in terms of evolution. Thus far, this has includedfan-favorite Pokemon like Zorua/Zoroarkand Growlithe, butPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearlmay include teases of another.

First pointed out by Joe Merrick, the webmaster of beloved Pokemon site Serebii, there is a new book in the Canalave library that was not present in the originalPokemon Diamond, Pearl,orPlatinum. It tells a story about the prince of the sea, the East Sea, and more, while naming Mantyke, Buizel, and a “Qwilfish with huge spikes” there.
There are two notable things about this story. First, it shares a lot of similarities with thePokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Seamovie, but there are a few distinctions. There is no East Sea in the movie’s description, and while a Mantyke and Buizel appear on some posters/movie art, there is no “Qwilfish with huge spikes” in the movie/art.
Secondly, this lines up withPokemon Legends: Arceusrumorsthat Qwilfish would be receiving a Hisuian variant. This is by no means any confirmation of the rumor, but it is, as Merrick suggests, “very suspicious.” It could have been a straight-up Easter egg toPokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea,but the changes are quite noteworthy. They also had to be intentional.
When and if Nintendo/Game Freak confirm Qwilfish’s Hisuian Variant, it’ll be interesting to see what its huge spikes look like. Not to mention,Pokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearlare still basically brand new, and there may be more additions/changes like this to be discovered in Sinnoh. Ultimately, it’ll be interesting to see how far the connection betweenBrilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, andLegends: Arceusgo. It may stop at just teasers and Easter eggs, but this shows that potential.
