Nintendo didn’t announcePokemon DiamondandPearlremakes at its recentPokemon-themed Direct as rumored, but the company did reveal sizable new expansions forPokemon SwordandShield. The expansion are called The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra, and both will be adding a slew of new content to the games, including new areas to explore, people to meet, and Pokemon to catch.Pokemon SwordandShieldplayers also have new legendary Pokemon to add to their collection once they get their hands on the new expansions, with three detailed today.

The Isle of Armor expansion forPokemon SwordandShieldwill launch in June 2020, and it will bring with it a rare evolving legendary in Kubfu.Pokemon SwordandShieldplayers will automatically obtain Kubfu for their roster by playing through the story. In fact, it will be gifted to them by their new mentor, a man named “Mustard.” As one might imagine, Kubfu is afighting-type Pokemon.

WhenPokemon SwordandShieldplayers “complete their training” with Kubfu, it will evolve into Urshifu. Urshifu has two different styles players will be able to get: Single Strike Style, which is fighting/dark-type, and Rapid Strike Style, which is fighting/water-type. The style that players obtain for their specific Urshifu will determine the appearance of Urshifu’sGigantamax form, as well as their G-Max move. It’s unclear exactly how Kubfu will evolve into one Urshifu or the other, but more details should come to light nearer to release.

The other expansion forPokemon SwordandShieldwill come sometime in fall 2020, though a specific release month has yet to be announced. Like The Isle of Armor expansion, The Crown Tundra will add a new legendary Pokemon for players to collect in the form of Calyrex, which is a psychic/grass-type Pokemon. It sounds like The Crown Tundra storyline will largely focus on learning the mysteries behind Calyrex, so fans have that to look forward to later this year.

These three legendary Pokemon were the only ones given much detail in thePokemonDirect, but other legendary Pokemon were seen as well. This included old school legendary Pokemon that will be added toSwordandShieldin The Crown Tundra expansion, as well as brand new ones that are on the way as well. Details on those new legendaries are scarce at this time, but we should learn more later this year.
