Pokemon Unitehas been a popular addition to the MOBA genre ever since its release in July of this year. The collaboration between Nintendo and Chinese gaming juggernaut Tencent features agrowing roster of iconic Pokemonwith nearly 30 playable Pokemon already added to the MOBA over its first four and a half months. Despite criticisms on its launch surrounding the microtransactions, thePokemon-themed MOBA has been steadily growing and recently announced its plans to introduce a popular member ofPokemon’sseventh generation.
Pokemon Unitehas been a popular choice for many MOBA fans with the iconic Nintendo franchise first releasing in July on Switch and later on mobile devices in September. The game has been receiving consistent updates with multiple new Pokemon being added to the game nearly every month. Recent additions sawPokemon Uniteintroduce fan favorites like Decidueye and Sylveon and now,Pokemon Unitehas officially unveiled the newest Pokemon set to join the game, Tsareena.

A new trailer introduces Tsareena and shows off some of the newly-added Pokemon’s gameplay. Tsareena will bean All-Rounder with melee attacksfocused on the Pokemon’s dancing thematic and predominantly featuring kicks. One of Tsareena’s abilities features the Pokemon dancing around enemies dealing damages with its spin kicks and its Unite Move knocks an enemy airborne before delivering a barrage of kicks. The tweet also announces that Trainers logging in afterPokemon Unite’s December 9th update can claim Tsareena’s Unite license for free for a limited time.
While the game has been popular among both MOBA fans and fans of thePokemonfranchise in general,Pokemon Unitehas received a fair amount of criticism for its monetization model over the months since its release. Previous complaints about the pay-to-win aspect of the game’s held items system as well as the recent release ofparticular expensivePokemonskinshas created significant concern among the game’s fanbase about the future ofPokemon Unite’s pricing scheme and use of microtransactions in general.
The release ofPokemon Unitehas been just one part of a slew of releases from Nintendo and The Pokemon Company to celebrate the massive franchise’s 25th anniversary. Nintendo has already released multiplePokemontitles over the course of 2021 including thelong-awaitedDiamondandPearlremakesandNew Pokemon Snapas a successor to the Nintendo 64 game. With the franchise already gearing up for its next major release in next month’sPokemon Legends: Arceusand the success of ongoing games likePokemon GOandPokemon Unite,Pokemon’s 25th anniversary has been one to remember for the long-running franchise.
