One of the earliest games revealed for Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 5 title was the science-fiction horror gameQuantum Error. Originally set to be aPlayStation exclusive, developers TeamKill Media have since confirmed that the game is also coming to Xbox Series S and X when it launches in 2021.
Quantum Errorturned heads when it was first revealed, with many comparing it to other classic sci-fi horror games likeDead Space. Since its initial trailer, not a lot has been revealed aboutQuantum Error, beyond some brief glimpses of gameplay and that it is now expanding to next-generation Xbox platforms. The developers explained that the decision was made after getting “so many requests” for Xbox versions following events like Gamescom and the Future Games Show. “This announcement and move is to allow more players to experienceQuantum Error,” the developers said on Twitter. No PC version has been officially announced to date.

While this is a very consumer-friendly decision, it has still drummed up some controversy regardless. Some disgruntled PlayStation fans on Twitter have said that they aren’t buying the game now that it’s also coming toXbox. “Sorry, you have lost a sale for not being clear from the first moment,” one user said. Other PlayStation fans, meanwhile, seem to approve of the decision and are happy that the game is going to reach a wider audience.
Some PS5 horror fans may be upset because this isn’t the first time that a horror game has abandoned its PS5 exclusivity plans. Previously,Martha is Deaddropped its PlayStation 5 release plansentirely, and is now coming to Xbox Series X as a console exclusive. It’s possible that some of those who are upset by TeamKill Media’s decision would not have reacted quite as strongly had theMartha is Deadsituation not taken place.
But that doesn’t mean the PS5 won’t have major exclusive horror games. One of the most prevalent theories about upcoming PS5 games is that Konami and Sony have aSilent HillPS5 exclusivegame in active development. This project has yet to be announced, but it has been leaked by proven industry insiders, who all seem to agree that the game’s announcement is going to happen by the end of the year.
And even if theSilent HillPS5 exclusive game never materializes, it’s not like Sony’s next-gen console will be hurting for horror games.Quantum Erroris still coming to PS5, along with other major next-generation horror games, with Capcom’sResident Evil 8arguably being the most notable of the bunch.
Quantum Errorwill launch in late 2021 for PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
