What is Record of Ragnarok about?

Brunhilde, a Valkyrie or demi-god, taunts the gods into participating in the Ragnarok. This foretold event written into prophecy will pit humanity against gods. It is a winner-take-all tournament to decide the fate of humanity. 13 fighters on each side will fight to the death in one-on-one battles, and the first to seven victories will win it all. Society’s greatest warriors across all time face off against the most powerful and influential gods in mythologies across every culture and religion. These are names in history that stories are written about and legends created surrounding their impact on society. From King Leonidas of Sparta to Nicola Tesla andThor, the God of Thunder, to Poseidon, God of the Seas, these names hold weight in all aspects of society. Flashbacks show each fighter’s history to justify participating in the fated contest.

Zeus champions the gods against the mortals, while Brunhilde leads humanity. Brunhilde and Zeus are responsible for choosing the fighters and discussing the arenas for each round. A set of rules governs the Ragnarok and what occurs when either side is victorious. Fights end when one combatant is killed by the other; there is no time limit for each match’s length. Participants may fight as many times as they choose as long as they are alive. There are sometimes caveats to the rules, like when Lu Bu’s red horse entered the battle in the first match to allow his master to continue fighting after getting his legs broken or when Buddha decided that he would fight for the human team instead of representing the gods. One of the most critical and vital rules to the Ragnarok is that the entirety of humanity gets to watch and be present as its result affects them the most.

How Powerful is Zeus in Record of Ragnarok?

Zeus participates in the tournament’s second round, facing off against Adam, the first human and father of all humanity. Zeus transforms his body into a vast, hulking mass of muscle to do battle, and each attack can end the fight in one blow. His attacks are so fast the naked eye can’t track their movement, and he even unleashes an attack that surpasses time itself, named after his father Chronos, the god of time. At his peak, he compresses his vast muscles, taking on a new form called Adamas that causes the entire stadium toshiver in fear at his intense aura. His attacks in this form are even more devastating because all his muscular strength is shrunk down and focused into a single point. This form allows him to deliver attacks in the true essence of a godly strike, which are said to be impossible to dodge.

Nicknamed the father of the cosmos, not only does Zeus have dominion overGreek mythology, but Indian and Norse godsalso revere him and look to him for leadership and guidance. He can easily coerce other gods into doing what he wants without physically fighting them and orders them around when he makes a decision. Where Did Zeus’s Story leave off in Record of Ragnarok?

After Zeus’s victory in the tournament, he takes on the role of strategist for the gods. Zeus selected Apollo, the sun god, as the fighter in round 9 to represent the immortals. He is sitting in the VIP gods section watching the fights and, between matches, approaches warriors individually when it is their turn to do battle. Zeus has excellent knowledge of each soldier he selects and explains the powers, abilities or mindset of the gods in the arena.

Due to the uncertainty of outcomes and individual gods' fickle personalities, Zeus may change the remaining line-up of fighters on his side. With his vast knowledge of other pantheons, influence, and respect, he makes the best decisions for his team. For the remainder of the tournament, it looks like Zeus will continue to operate from behind the scenes, ensuring that the right gods fight at the right time.
