2022’sCall of Dutystill hasn’t been officially revealed, but the last six months have seen a flurry of rumors and leaks, all strongly suggesting that this year’s title will be a sequel to 2019’sModern Warfare, simply titledModern Warfare 2. Like its predecessor,Modern Warfare 2will apparently takeelements from the original 2009 game, and modernize them even further, putting a new spin on the game’s context and characters.
According toa recentCall of Dutyleak on Twitter,Modern Warfare 2will feature even more remastered maps than the developer had originally planned. 2019’sModern Warfarehad its own fair share of remastered maps, including classics like Rust, Crash, and Shipment, so it only makes sense that Infinity Ward would want to capture that same feeling of nostalgia for the sequel. According to the leaker, this year’sModern Warfare 2will feature remastered maps from the originalModern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2,andModern Warfare 3, and thankfully, there’s plenty of great maps left to choose from.

Highrise
One of the mosticonicModern Warfare 2maps, Highrise caters to just about every type of gameplay. For those who tend to prefer close-quarters combat, then weaving in and out of the map’s interior structures should provide enough cover. For those who love to snipe, the various balconies dotted around the map give some great vantage points.
On top of the map’s practicality, Highrise is also just one ofModern Warfare2’s most memorable maps, with its naturalistic sunset lighting setting it apart fromotherCall of Dutymaps. The ability to climb onto the roof of the building has also become one of the map’s defining features, with many players throwing themselves off the map to try and grab onto the hanging platform.
Quarry
AnotherModern Warfare 2jack-of-all-trades map, Quarry uses a variety of internal and external areas to keep gameplay varied. The many winding pathways through the titular quarry are ideal forshotgun or SMG users, and the elevated structures give snipers plenty of opportunities to pick off targets below them.
If Infinity Ward wanted to truly capture the essence of the originalModern Warfare 2, then bringing back Quarry would be a great idea, especially if theDesert Ghillie Suitwas added. In no time, players would be getting picked off from every angle by players they can hardly spot, just like the good old days.
Terminal
A staple of theCall of Dutyfranchise, Terminal was first introduced inModern Warfare 2, and has since appeared inModern Warfare 3,Infinite Warfare, and evenCall of Duty Mobile. Though the map layout is fairly simple, with an L-shaped building being the main focus, with a plane situated just outside, this map is seared into many players' minds.
Tight corners and a plethora of hiding spots make it an incredibly difficult map to master, but Terminal is worth every minute of gameplay. Although this map is a little more restrictive, encouraging mid-range combat withSMGs and assault rifles, the chaotic nature of the map has ensured that players remember its layout even today.

Estate
A favorite map for custom games like Mike Myers,Modern Warfare 2’s Estate mapoffers quite a bit of verticality, with a large house at the top of a hill. Matches on Estate quickly become a battle of attrition for control over the house, as once a team is inside, it’s pretty difficult to coax them out. Battles on Estate aren’t long, but they are memorable.
Bloc
Moving over to the originalModern Warfare, there’s still a few maps that have yet to be remastered fully. Bloc is one such map. Taking place in the same Pripyat setting as the iconicModern Warfaremission One Shot, One Kill, this map sees players go head-to-head in two blocks of flats.
Though some players prefer to speed around the buildings' hallways with close-quarters weapons, Bloc heavily encourages long-range sniping, whether it’s across to the other block of flats, or down to opponents in the courtyard below. Some players aren’t a fan of them, butnewCall of Dutygamescould always do with a few more sniper-centric maps for variety.

Dome
Though it’s recently beenremastered forCall of Duty: Vanguard, a Dome remaster for 2022’sModern Warfare 2would fit right in, and would allow the map to more closely resemble theModern Warfare 3original. Dome is probably the most fondly rememberedMW3map, with an emphasis on close quarters combat, but still one or two areas for snipers to set up shop. The smaller size of Dome ensures that every match is pureCall of Duty, chaotic fun.
Arkaden
Modern Warfare 3’s Arkaden clearly takes quite a bit of inspiration from Terminal, and while it isn’t quite as memorable, the engaging gameplay is still there. The claustrophobic layout of Arkaden’s mall encourages the same frenetic gameplay as Terminal, with players constantly darting around every corner. Also like Terminal, Arkaden’s mall has glass roofs, so most of the area isvulnerable to killstreaksstill, which helps to deter campers.
Village
A pretty divisive map for some,Modern Warfare 3’s Village deserves a remaster. From a visual standpoint, Village is one ofMW3’s best, with lush green foliage wrapping itself around most of the map. From a gameplay standpoint, Village is certainly one of the more interestingCall of Dutymaps, with an extremely varied layout that has a smattering of elevated structures and banks, encouraging players to be aware of their surroundings at all time.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is rumored to be in development.
