When it came out in 2017,Resident Evil 7breathed new life into the franchise, which was experiencing a low period after the previous two installments had a focus more on action. Thankfully,Capcom took theResident Evilseries back to its horror rootswith the seventh entry, and things have been going from strength to strength ever since. As well as putting focus back into the scares, the game also looked fantastic with ultra realistic, for the time, visuals. However, it seems as though they could always stand to look even better.
Created by Ashok, a new add-on has been uploaded to Nexusmods that’s simply called “4K HD Upscaled Textures.” As the name suggests, it brings higher resolution textures toResident Evil 7. According to the description, it takes the nearly 1,500 vanilla textures from the game and uses AI upscaling to make them 4K. Images show a comparison between the two, with the upscaled version looking a lot sharper. However, the modder does go on to say that things like cloth, photographs, or anything else that has “very fine detail” have not been given improved textures.

Overall, it looks like a fantastic mod, especially for those who enjoy the game, but want to experience greater visual fidelity.Resident Evil 7was one of the best offline games for PS4, and is still a fan favorite five years down the line. The choice to move to a first-person perspective, and to essentially do away with the zombie tropes of the classic entries, was an inspired choice, which made the game grittier and scarier than the ones that had come before it. Of course, 2021’sResident Evil Villagecontinued in this vain, and has shown the world that there is still so much potential in this long-running franchise.
The first entry from way back in 1996 was agame that defined the horror survival genre, helping to popularize titles of this ilk. The first three are absolute classics and are enjoyed to this day, especially with the remakes. Since the fourth game back in 2005, the series has made numerous changes to try and keep things fresh.
WithResident Evil 4now getting a remake, which is due out next year, Capcom’s flagship horror IP is still a force to be reckoned with in the industry. There are so many games in the series to play, and Ashok’s mod for the seventh installment will help to keep even the newer ones in tip-top shape for years to come.
Resident Evil 7is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
