AResident Evilcommunity member has pointed out an inconsistency in Leon S. Kennedy’s background story that’s told inResident Evil 4. The detail concerns a plot hole found in theResident Eviltimelineduring Leon’s training in the military.

Leon S. Kennedy is aResident Evilcharacter that played a key role in the eradication of the G-Virus and other anomalous mutagens in the series. He has taken on several challenges in bothResident Evil 2andResident Evil 4and was part of the most important developments inResident Evil 6alongsideother heroes like Chris Redfield and Ada Wong. This iconicResident Evilcharacter has a lot going for him, especially given his military background.

Some observantResident Evilfans have put this into question, however. As a clever user on Reddit who goes by Philkindred12 pointed out, Leon was exempt from taking one of the most prominent military measures that any cadet will undergo as soon as they are enlisted: shaving their hair. It’s almost widely known that military boot camps have this sort of rite-of-passage for any new trainees that exist to promote cleanliness among military cadets. The official explanation for this practice involves field sanitation to help reduce the risk of spreading head and/or body lice. However, such measures don’t apply to Mr. Kennedy, as he is free to sport his signature hairstyle with no issue, even during military training.

Other Reddit users have poked fun at this plot hole found in the backstory of one ofResident Evil’s most iconic characters. Some theorized that the reason why he was given special permission to keep his hair was to keep him quiet about everything he saw withinRaccoon Cityas the events ofResident Evil 2unfolded. Meanwhile, other users have pulled a conspiracy about how Leon somehow strong-armed his government into giving him special permission to keep his hair.

Regardless of the reason, Leon still manages to keep this hairstyle and look throughout theResident Evilseries, even withLeon’s changes in theResident Evil 4 Remake. A character like Leon S. Kennedy will never lose the opportunity to look stylish while taking down several hordes of the undead and other freaky mutagen viruses. In a world where survival is the most important thing to do, characters like Leon find a way to look stylish while doing it.

Resident Evil 4is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
