Rick and Mortyhad always painted Rick Sanchez as some sort of detached genius, someone who was so above it all that there was no reason to feel emotions about anything. Eventually, that facade began to soften, with viewers learning more about Rick’s complicated past and what led to many of his multiversal travels and eventually the formation of the Council of Ricks.
Behind the show’s ever-complicating lore is the simple fact that Rick saw his own wife die in an unprompted attack from another version of himself. Season 7 of the show has already made some big changes behind the scenes, but how will it continue the story of Rick looking for his wife’s murderer? Will the story be able to resolve?
How did Rick’s wife Die?
Rick defines himself as an unempathetic loner who solely cares about science, disregarding any emotional connection to anyone, even his daughter. He talks about the importance of focusing on science, as love wastes time and nothing good can come from it. However, this perspective attempts to mask the pain and regret lived with every day.
Fans discover that the story’s protagonist lost his wife to an alternate version of himself years ago. This alternate Rick offered him a portal gun, and when he refused, he sent a bomb into his home, killing his wife. Rick took it upon himself to track down this alternate version and take his life as revenge for his late spouse. He spent years searching, killing many Ricks across the multiverse, siphoning intelligence from beings to make himself smarter. His attempts to find the specific version of himself failed years later; he fell into depression, becoming an alcoholic. His final attempt at locating his adversary is to live in his home reality and wait for his return.
Will Rick pursue evil Rick in season 7?
Season six ended with Rick’s motivation to find evil Rick revived. They came into contact briefly, but evil Rick managed to slip away. Rick decides to forego chasing after his enemy to save and protect the people he cares about; however, this is a temporary stoppage, and he dedicates all his time to the pursuit oncehis loved ones are out of danger. He is incredibly dedicated to the chase, and he creates a robot to spend time with his family so he can entirely focus on the search. Half of season six is the robot version of Rick that goes on adventures with Morty and spends time with the family. Fans discover that Morty is the biological grandson of evil Rick, seeing as prime Rick never had kids.
At the end of season six prime Rick tells Morty that he will do anything to find evil Rick, but he is brilliant, and it will be difficult. He managed to exist in multiple spaces simultaneously; Rick must visit each location to locate him. Prime Rick’s disheveled appearance indicates intense focus and little rest over time. The season seven trailer begins with Rick telling Morty that he found the version of himself that killed his wife, emphasizing that the upcoming episodes will have Rick continuing the chase no matter what other hurdles he encounters.
What is the difference between Prime Rick and Evil Rick?
Across the multiverse exist thousands of Ricks and Mortys with overlapping personality traits and hang-ups. Prime and evil Rick, however, seem to be cut from a completely different cloth; at the very least, evil Rick created the trauma that bore prime Rick. These two versions are separate from the rest of their counterparts in myriad ways, mainly in mindset and innovation. Both of these Ricks are further aheadtechnology-wise than anyone else. Prime Rick knows he is better than the others because rules like the others do not bind him.
Each Rick in the multiverse had a wife and a daughter who eventually started her own family, which produced Morty, Rick’s grandsonand his partner. Prime Rick is different, as he never had a daughter, so he has no biological grandson to take on adventures. The Morty he’s bonded with is the grandson of evil Rick. Evil Rick boasts technology that keeps him young, and he can instantly heal from nearly fatal wounds. Prime Rick attempts to display an uncaring attitude towards family and friends, but fans soon learn that isn’t true. He loves Morty and the rest of his adopted family.Evil Rick genuinely does not care about anyonebut himself; Evil Rick abandons his family and does not care to reconnect with them. His agenda is shrouded in mystery, and no one can figure out how he thinks or what his next move is.
