Animal Crossing: New Horizons is full of adorable Villagers, though many fans have a soft spot for the goofy-looking penguin named Roald. Now, oneAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsplayer has inserted Roald into a viral Pingu meme, sharing a terrific animation online.
The Pingu meme in question sees the beloved penguin making its signature Noot Noot noise before staring blankly into the camera as intense music plays. Usually paired with a realization that something bad has happened or is about to occur, this Pingu meme has been seen everywhere in recent weeks, with the animated character experiencing another resurgence in popularity. Considering thatRoaldis also a penguin, he is a perfect Villager to fill Pingu’s shoes.

While there have been someother greatAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsanimations, this particular one comes from Reddit user Qugmo. At the start of the nine-second clip, players get to see a cute, less detailed version of Roald as he looks off to the side. He then delivers Pingu’s Noot Noot noise before turning to the camera, with the same music from the recent meme heard ramping up in the background. A new version of Roald is then shown as the camera zooms in on his face.
Gone is the cute, quickly drawn version of Roald that was seen at the start of the clip, as Qugmo provides a close-up of Roald where an incredible amount of detail can be seen. Not only is his red shirt properly textured with lines and little details, but some shadows are used to add to the realism of Roald’s eyes and beak. With the animator completely nailing what made the original meme work so well, it is no surprise that theAnimal Crossing: New Horizonscommunityshowered the post with praise and left over 14,000 upvotes.
In the comments, players were quick to theorize about what left Roald so stunned. A well received comment from Ame0toko suggested that this is Roald’s reaction to a hostile player approaching him with a net. This is in reference to a popular tactic players used tomake unwanted Villagers move out, as hitting them enough times with a net will make them angry with the player - increasing their chances of leaving the island. Others said that this version of the meme was more terrifying than the one starring Pingu, with some players concerned to see the carefree Roald this bothered by something.
A perfect take on the original animation from telepurte, this version of the meme will be perfect for whenever things go wrong forAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsplayers. While a fewpenguin Villagerscould have worked for this animation, Roald proved to be the perfect choice, as he looks both adorable and terrified.
