WithThe Batmanhitting theaters this weekend,Rocket Leagueis celebrating the film’ release with a new car based on the film’s new version of the Batmobile. Since first launching in July 2015,Rocket Leaguehas grown in popularity, with players praising its simple yet initiative mechanics and overall fun gameplay. And sinceRocket Leaguebecame free-to-playon all major consoles, it has seen an even bigger increase in its player base.
Rocket Leaguehas been described by developer Psyonix as “soccer, but with rocket power cars,” with players ramming their vehicles in soccer balls to score points. However, there are a bunch of other different modes and challenges that the developer has created over the years, and the learning curve and skill associated with the game has even led toRocket Leaguebecoming a prominent esports titleright alongside games likeOverwatchandLeague of Legends.

Another thingRocket Leagueis prominent for is its wide variety of crossovers. Much likeFortnite, developed by Psyonix’s parent company Epic Games,Rocket Leaguehas seen a variety of franchises be represented in the game through a variety of iconic vehicles, whether it be James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 orthe Ecto-1 fromGhostbusters. And now, another film franchise has been added to the mix with the introduction, or more-so reintroduction, of one the most famous vehicles in fiction.
Announced on the officialRocket Leaguewebsite, the Batmoblie, as seen in the new filmThe Batman, will be available in the game’s item shop for purchase, along with a variety of cosmetics centered around the vehicle along with a new goal explosion. Alongside the release of this new bundle, the developers will be bringing back the Gotham City Rumble limited-time mode, which will see players be able to grab power-ups based on Batman’s rogue’s gallery.
TheBatmanfranchise has seen a variety of crossovers with Rocket League in the past, with the previously mentioned Gotham City Rumble LTM, and with a vehicles based on theother past versions of the Batmobilethat appear in films likeBatman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeandThe Dark Knighttrilogy. And now, with the latestBatmanfilm set to be released soon, it only makes sense that the version of the Batmobile that appears in the film would make its way toRocket Leagueeventually.
So far,The Batmanhas been receiving rave reviewsfrom critics thus far for its mature tone, captivating performances, and excellent direction under Matt Reeves. With several pieces of promotion being released for the film leading up to its release, including another possible crossover withFortnite, it’s inclusion inRocket Leaguewas almost a given, but nevertheless extremely welcome.
