Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is still years away, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor wheel from spinning as fans are yearning for more information. One of the latest rumors suggests that all of the regular suits inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2will also have Symbiote variants, as Venom is being set up as one the game’s leading villains.
The Symbiote suit is one of Spider-Man’s all-time most recognizable looks, as it comes from one of its most iconic stories as well. There are many variations of the story, but essentially,Venom is a parasitic alien known as a Symbiotewho comes to Earth and becomes infatuated with Spider-Man’s strength and abilities, latching onto to him, making him more powerful, and giving him the sleek black Symbiote suit. In the reveal trailer forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, Venom was confirmed as one of the game’s villains, making it pretty likely for fans that they will see the Symbiote suit appear in some capacity. In Insomniac Games' firstSpider-Mantitle, suits were not just cosmetic changes, but also gave the player different abilities.

A new rumor proposes that there won’t just be one Symbiote suit inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, but Symbiote variants of all the game’s costumes. The rumor comes courtesy of Elijah Boxhill, writer and admin for FandomWire, who writes on Twitter, “Hearing there will be a symbiote variant of every suit in #Spiderman2,” along with a GIF of the Spider-Men looking at Venom from theSpider-Man 2trailer. Back in September when the trailer originally launched, afan edited Spider-Man’s suit into a Symbiote variant, giving a potential glimpse at what the suit may actually look like. Insomniac Games has not offered any new information on the game since that trailer.
Naturally, there have been many ideas floating around theSpider-Mancommunity of how Insomniac Games should implement the Symbiote suit, even before the game’s formal announcement. One fan wants to see anevolving Symbiote suit inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2that changes as Venom’s bond with—and control over—Peter Parker increases, as it does in theSpectacular Spider-Mananimated show. Considering the narrative focus of the first game andMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, it would make sense to have a Symbiote suit that progressively becomes more prominent, than it totally consuming Peter right out of the gate.
The idea of there beingmultiple Symbiote suits inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2isn’t exactly a new one, but this is the first time that a rumor of its existence has floated around. Most players would agree that Insomniac Games has handled alternate costumes very well so far in the series, really emphasizing player expression and being the Spider-Man they want to be. Having multiple Symbiote suits would be an extension of this desire, making Venom’s relationship to Peter and the player feel much more organic and not as game-like. It will definitely mean more work on Insomniac Games' part though.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is in development for PS5 and is planned for 2023.
