Details regarding four unannouncedAssassin’s Creedprojects have leaked, according to a recent report. Ubisoft currently has multiple majorAssassin’s Creedprojects in development that have already been announced, as the publisher seeks to return to annual releases in the franchise. Yet those projects may be just the start of Ubisoft’sAssassin’s Creedplans, with the leaked games hinting at a much more diverse range of experiences being offered as part of the franchise.In September 2022, Ubisoft announcedfour newAssassin’s Creedgamesbeing in development.Assassin’s Creed Mirageis tentatively planned for release in 2023 and is seen as a shorter, smaller return for the franchise. The other projects are referred to asCodename Red,Codename Hexe, andCodename Jade, set in feudal Japan, the Holy Roman Empire, and ancient China, respectively. Those three projects are Ubisoft Chengdu’sProject Raid, a 4-player co-op PvE game, Ubisoft Sofia’sProject Nebula, based in India, theAztec Empire, and the Mediterranean, and Ubisoft Annecy’s Project Echoes, a multiplayer game based on Ubisoft’s Scalar cloud technology.
The fourth leaked project from Insider Gaming’s report is actually a sequel to another unannouncedAssassin’s Creedgame.Project Nexusis anAssassin’s CreedVR gamesaid to be planned for an announcement at E3 this year. The fourth game is said to beProject Nexus 2, another VR project.
In all, that brings the number of knownAssassin’s Creedprojects up to ten. There’sMirage,Red,Hexe, andJade, which Ubisoft announced last December. Then there’s themultiplayerAssassin’s CreedgameInvictusthat Ubisoft also announced in 2021.Nexus, the VR game, is set to be announced soon. Then there are these four newly leaked projects,Nexus 2,Raid,Nebula, andEchoes.
One source for this latest round ofAssassin’s Creedleaks says that Ubisoft is “going all in” on the franchise, as well as other major franchises. But it should also be made clear these newAssassin’s Creedprojects are referenced only as “pitches.” Ubisoft isn’t necessarily dedicated to this direction, and the report itself may not even be accurate in the first place. Still, given Ubisoft’s past push for annualAssassin’s Creedreleases and the success it had then, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it happen again.
