The upcoming hack-and-slash spinoffFire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopesis revealing its characters bit by bit, releasing one trailer per Friday for each of the three factions first introduced in 2019 main series titleFire Emblem: Three Houses. These trailers show off each character’s new design as well as a small clip of them in battle, allowing fans to theorize about their play style and class options. While these trailers so far have revealed a number ofThree Housesmechanics returning forFire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, the latest offers hints that certain weapons may in fact not be coming back.

The trailer showcased the members of theBlack Eagles house, representing the Adrestian Empire and led by Edelgard, their future Emperor. Previously, only Edelgard and her retainer Hubert had shown up in preview materials, making this the first look fans got at the other six house members. The Black Eagles trailer showed characters fighting with a variety of iconic series weapons, including swords, axes, lances, and bows. However, some characters were missing Sacred Weapons, holy artifacts from the Saints of old that could be discovered throughoutThree Houses.

What Are Sacred Weapons in Fire Emblem: Three Houses?

Fodlan, the world ofFire Emblem: Three HousesandFire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes,is a society where certain individuals - typically members of the nobility - possess powerful genetic abilities called Crests. Five of these Crests are believed to originate from five holy Saints sacred to the Church: Saints Seiros, Cichol, Cethleann, Indech, and Macuil. The Adrestian Empire, the oldest of the three factions, has a number of noble families that boast Saint Crests. Ferdinand, Linhardt, and Bernadetta have Minor Crests of Cichol, Cethleann, and Indech respectively, whileEdelgard, as all Emperors before her, bears the Minor Crest of Seiros.

The Sacred Weapons are holy weapons that provide additional benefits if the wielder possesses the corresponding Crest. InFire Emblem: Three Houses,Ferdinand could acquire the Spear of Assal and the Ochain Shield, Linhardt the Caduceus Staff, and Bernadetta a bow called The Inexhaustible. There was also a Sword of Seiros, which Edelgard wielded in some routes, and Seiros Shield, possessed by Archbishop Rhea. Sacred Weapons for other Crests, including Riegan, Gloucester, and Fraldarius, also exist. Unlikethe most Crest-exclusive Heroes' Relics, Sacred Weapons could be used by any unit.

Where Are The Sacred Weapons in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes?

The trailer for the Black Eagles showed Ferdinand, Linhardt, and Bernadetta wielding ordinary weapons, with no Sacred Weapons in sight. Edelgard also lacks the Sword of Seiros, but she does possess a unique new axe named Labraunda. This is a noted contrast from the previous Blue Lions trailer, which showed several students, including Dimitri, Felix, and Ingrid, wielding the Heroes' Relicsbelonging to their families and associated with their Crests.

The absence of the Sacred Weapons could have a number of explanations. One theory is that the Black Eagles are opposing theChurch of Seiros, and thus are denied access to Church-related weaponry. Another is that something bad could have happened to Seteth and Flayn, the hidden identities of Saints Cichol and Cethleann, rendering their weapons inaccessible. Although Flayn appeared in a previous trailer, Seteth has not yet been shown, leading fans to speculate that something may have happened to him.

Sacred Weapons Could Make Interesting Side Quests

There is some hope that the Sacred Weapons may yet show up. An earlier trailer forThree Hopeshinted at theinclusion of a new character, Monica, and saw her wielding a unique tome called The Wind Caller’s Genesis, which may be a Sacred Weapon connected to Saint Macuil. InThree Houses,Macuil was stated to distrust humanity and thus have never given out his Crest, but Monica’s story could potentially reveal a different truth. This has led some fans to theorize that the Wind Caller’s Genesis and other Sacred Weapons might be collectible via side quests or additional battles inFire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes.

There is precedent for collecting Sacred Weapons this way. InThree Houses,The Inexhaustible was obtained in a Paralogue called “Legend of the Lake,” in which players were tasked with retrieving the bow from a giant turtle hinted to be none other than Saint Indech himself.Legend of the Lake is one ofThree Houses’most-liked paraloguesfor its unique monster battle and lore reveals. Including similar quests inThree Hopescould be a great way to reveal more information about the Church of Seiros and the history of the Saints.

With at least one more trailer to go before the game’s release in June, it is possible that the Sacred Weapons may show up after all. For now, fans can only wait and hope, curious if the assumedGolden Deer trailerwill reveal anything more on the subject.
