Scarlet Nexuswas revealed at theInside Xbox Gameplay Reveal event, but infamously didn’t show much gameplay. Now a new trailer has surfaced which shows the game’s psionic powers in action and also gives a glimpse of its unique animation style used for certain cutscenes.
Scarlet Nexusis Bandai Namco’s first foray into the next generation consoles, and it is nice to see a new IP for that purpose. It will focus on characters with psionic abilities able to combat the “Others.” The main character is part of a special task force, the Other Suppression Force, and wields both psychokinetic powers and a katana.

The trailer itself is somewhat short, but does showcase quite a bit ofcombat gameplay. From the looks of it, using one’s environment will be key to victory against the menacing Others, and overall the game looks rather enjoyable.
The first thing fans will notice is theunique animation styleof the opening cutscene in this trailer. The intro cinematic seems distinctly different from the art style of the rest of the gameplay but is still satisfying to watch. Once the gameplay kicks in, it seems like things are non-stop action. This mirrors the original trailer forScarlet Nexusplayed at Inside Xbox, which indicates that this game is going to be rather fast paced. Perhaps the most exciting thing about the new trailer is the reveal of new enemy types players will be facing.
The first trailer focused mainly on one type of enemy, Others which looked like humanoids with flowers growing as the top half of their bodies. Other enemies were shown but not really seen in action. This trailer provides a breadth of new, grotesque enemies for players to face down and also gives more insight on how the player will use their psychokinesis. Players will need to use their environment against the enemy, but can also control their katana at a range with telekinesis. How this will work onnext gen controllersis unclear, but hopefully more information comes soon.
At the moment, there is norelease date forScarlet Nexus, but it will likely come at the end of this year or sometime early next year. Bandai Namco may be releasing more trailers as time progresses, so interested fans should keep an eye out for them.
