One of the greatest benefits of PC gaming comes from the creative mods the community produces, andSekiro: Shadows Die Twiceis a game rife with modding opportunities. OneSekiroplayer modded his game to switch out the eponymous player character with Sephiroth, the infamous katana-wielding antagonist fromFinal Fantasy 7.
The mod itself was made by Victor_Gopher and Forsakensilver back in 2020. With themassive popularity ofElden Ring, many players are returning to older FromSoftware games likeSekiroand are now getting the chance to check out this mod for the first time.

Among those returning to older FromSoftware games is artist and streamer JimJimPants, who showed off the mod on theFinal FantasyReddit. He recently began a playthrough of the game with the mods, which he streams on his Twitch, RedPandaGamrRPG. Though he has only just begun, he has plenty of gameplay videos of his SephirothSekiroplaythrough available on his channel already.
The mod is far from perfect; the facial expressions can be a bit odd, and the physics of Sephiroth’s absurdly long hair is far from perfect, but that is to be expected from third-party mods. Despite the clipping and glitches, the mod is pretty great. WhileFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeis an action game likeSekiro, it is far from a Soulslike title–if players want to experience the tight and gritty combat of FromSoftwaregames withFinal Fantasy 7characters, this mod is perfect for them.
The mod fits surprisingly well with the story. While Sephiroth’s black leather jacket does not necessarily fit late 1600s Japan, his fighting style certainly does. What’s more, Sekiro’s English voice actor, Noshir Dalal, sounds somewhat similar to George Newbern, who voicedSephiroth for years across titles includingKingdom Hearts 2andAdvent Children, and Tyler Hoechlin, who played him more recently inFinal Fantasy 7 Remake.
JimJimPants’ fellow players were excited to see the footage of hismodded playthrough ofSekiro. Though the gritty samurai game was a huge success, selling over 5 million copies,Elden Ringnearly tripled it in popularity, meaning plenty of fans of the latter had never gotten to see the former. These fans who saw JimJimPants playing might now have the chance to explore other interesting titles from FromSoftware.
Many fans also took the opportunity to wonder what a true FromSoftwareFinal Fantasy 7title would look like. Many imagined an actual action title where players got to explore Sephiroth’s early life and his rise to fame during the Wutai War. Perhaps that wishful thinking can tide players over until they get a formal announcement ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2.
