A cinematic trailer forSonic Frontierswas shown at The Game Awards, confirming the many rumors thatSonic Frontierswas going to be the franchise’s take on an open-world exploration, similar to games likeThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The amount of information that fans have received about the game after that however was rather sparse.
The only details fans knew was the game’s aforementioned “open-zone” gameplay, and that it would feature some form of “dexterous” combat. In regard to the story, Ian Flynn,who has penned many ofSonic’s comic adventureswould be responsible for crafting it. After months of silence, fans finally got a good look at the gameplay ofSonic Frontiers, in a new sneak peek trailer from Sega.

This trailer kicks off with a familiar shot of Sonic running through the game’s forest in CGI cutscene, before cutting to show him running across the plains of the open-world. It also briefly showsSonic’s boost mechanic, which sees him running through a field of flowers. There also seems to be a hamster wheel kind of device that Sonic can find in the world, which when powered, can be used as a waypoint, with the game showing how it scans the surrounding environment. Notable items can also be seen, such as the spring and floating platforms.
This trailer also focuses onthe combat ofSonic Frontiers, which seems him facing off against some robotic enemies. One move that Sonic can do is circle around the enemy, creating a trail of light, which launches them into the air, followed up by Sonic’s signature homing attack. Another part of the trailer shows Sonic zooming towards another robotic enemy with a similar homing attack, before finishing them off with a spinning tornado kick.
This trailer forSonic Frontiersshows off some more of the game’s exploration, where Sonic can be seen grinding on rails and collecting rings. Finally, Sonic can be seen fighting a giant boss-like robot in the middle of the world, where players can boost up its arm to attack a weak point at the top. The player can use a homing attack, which can chain into a sequence of kicks, destroying the boss.
Sega promises more news ofSonic Frontierswill be shown throughout June, including more gameplay reveals, hands-on impressions, and interviews with some of the game’s creators. With a month dedicated toSonic Frontiers, this is an exciting time for the blue blur’s fans.
