Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’svoice actors have hyped up the game’s apparently antagonist, Venom, with a series of cryptic tweets. The actors did not reveal much about the game beyond the fact that the character “rules.” It is one of several teases the actors, specifically Tony Todd, have dropped on Twitter regarding the role of Venom inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2over the years.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2was officially revealedin 2021 coming off the heels of the success ofMarvel’s Spider-ManandSpider-Man: Miles Morales. The trailer itself contained a few surprises for fans, showing the two characters fighting alongside one another. Kraven the Hunter narrated the trailer and implied he was going after the titular characters, as they were a hunt worthy of him. The final shot of the trailer, however, revealed that Kraven was actually talking about Venom and implied that the character would be his true prey.

Soon after the trailer dropped, it was officially revealed thatTony Todd would voice Venom inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2. A horror icon, Todd is perhaps best known for his roles in theCandymanfranchise and theFinal Destinationfilms and has a resume that stretches all the way back to the 80s. Over the years he has also done a fair share of voice acting in films, television, and video games. In a recent post, the actor didn’t have a lot to say beyond the fact that his character rules and that players should beware. Peter Parker voice actor Yuri Lowenthal backed this statement up before Miles Morales' Nadji Jeter threw in his own cryptic tweet. Specifically, he stated that players were not ready for what was coming.

Since Tony Todd’s casting was revealed, the actor has routinely posted updates about the game. In May 2022, theVenom actor teased that he was doing motion capture, presumably forSpider-Man 2. In the past, he’s also teased at how big the game will be but deliberately avoids giving anything major away, and it’s not clear how big or a role the character will have in the upcoming installment.

Venom wasn’t involved in the first game, but what was heavily implied to be the character’s symbiote appeared during a post-credits scene. This has led to a lot of speculation about the character including the idea thatHarry Osborne may be both Venom and Green Goblin. Despite a planned 2023 release date, Insomniac Games and Sony have been lax on the promotional side of things for the game. Because of this, updates on the game’s development only seem to crop up when actors like Tony Todd cryptically Tweet about them, and fans will have to be satisfied with this for the time being.
