Insomniac released the excellentMarvel’sSpider-Manto the PS4 in 2018, before following it up with a remastered PS5 version alongside a separate spin-off title,Spider-Man: Miles Morales. WithMarvel’sSpider-Manbreaking sales records for Sonyand sitting at an impressive 87 Metacritic score, it was only a matter of time before Insomniac revealed a full-blown proper sequel.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2was announced at Sony’s recent PlayStation Showcase event on September 9, alongside other hard-hitting titles likeGod of War: Ragnarokand aStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republicremake developed by Aspyr.Spider-Man 2’s brief trailer featured both Peter Parker and Miles Morales working together as well as a reveal of the popular villain Venom. While the demonstration didn’t show off any gameplay footage, that hasn’t stopped eager fans from getting excited about the new web-slinging title.

Reddit user QuagmireParty has developed a mock-up of the games’ cover art. WithMarvel Spider-Man 2across the cover alongside the typical PS5 box art and Insomniac logos, QuagmireParty’s rendition looks highly convincing. The fan-made art features the titular character front and center, but rather than just displaying him in his typical red and blue suit, instead half of his outfit is the black Symbiote variant featured in many of the Venom-related pieces of media in theSpider-Manuniverse.
QuagmireParty’s plausible depiction of the cover art has been a hit with the SpidermanPS4 Reddit community, earning over 130 upvotes as of ths writing. Other community members are praising the fan-made attempt, calling it a masterpiece, exquisite, and epic. Some are comparing QuagmireParty’s black suit to the one used in directorSam Raimi’sSpider-Man 3film back in 2007.
While Insomniac has always created solid, well-received games like the recentRatchet and Clank: Rift Apartor theResistanceseries, withMarvel’s Spider-Manon PS4 it really began to come into the spotlight.Spider-Man 2isn’t the only title Marvel-related title that Insomniac is working on right now either, as the company alsoannouncedMarvel’s Wolverineat the PlayStation Showcase. Sony clearly is investing plenty of resources into the incredibly talented California-based developer and is trusting it with some hugely popular Marvel properties.
Of course, Insomniac wasn’t the only studio showing off its titles at the PlayStation Showcase event. Square Enix presented more footage of its upcoming fantasy action-adventure titleForspoken, and Sony Santa Monica offered up somegameplay footage of the much-anticipatedGod of War: Ragnarokcoming to both PS4 and PS5. Still,Spider-Man’s fame certainly makesSpider-Man 2one of the most eagerly awaited titles for the PlayStation 5, but fans will have to wait to see just how close QuagmireParty’s box-art concept is to the final product.
