Summary
It seems fair to say thatStar Wars Jedi: Survivortook the already-great groundwork ofFallen Orderand improved upon it in almost every way. From additional lightsaber stances, toimproved Force powers, more engaging and intuitive level design, and a much more rewarding 100% completion journey,Star Wars Jedi: Survivoris by all accounts a great game. However, it still isn’t quite perfect, and a thirdStar Wars Jedientry still has a lot it can do to continue improving.
WithStar Wars Jedi: Survivorbeing one of the most successful games of the year, it seems like an inevitability that a third entry is already on the way, and it has quite the pressure on its shoulders already. A Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Sequel Should Add a New Form of Traversal
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Really Expanded Cal’s Traversal Options
One ofStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s biggest selling points was itsUncharted-like platforming, letting players climb various pre-determined parts of the environment, use ziplines, and run across specific walls.Star Wars Jedi: Survivorturned this up to 11, adding a slew of new traversal features. Along with making its environments much more platforming-friendly,Star Wars Jedi: Survivoradded a satisfying air dash move, as well as an Ascension Cable grappling hook that eventually lets players leap into the air following a successful hook.Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s best platforming moments see players string all of these abilities together in one long combo, going a long way in making them feel like this all-powerful Jedi Knight.
On top of those new traversal abilities,Star Wars Jedi: Survivoralso introduced a new mount system to the game, allowing players to traverse the map on the back of a handful of native creatures. As well as being used as a form of fast travel, these mounts allowed players to reach new heights in the environment, and they were often used to solve various open-world puzzles and platforming sequences.
A Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Sequel Should Let Players Drive a Speeder Bike
It would only make sense that aStar Wars Jedi: Survivorsequel would want to expand upon its predecessors' traversal options even further, and there’s one type of transportation that was briefly teased inJedi: Survivorthat would be a perfect fit for the sequel. During one ofStar Wars Jedi: Survivor’s most memorable moments, Cal Kestis hops onto the back of a speeder bike to chase down a fleeing Bode Akuna. Though the section feels very on-rails, it’s still pretty exciting, with Cal moving at a ridiculously fast pace across Jedha’s dusty surface, all the while having to fend off scout troopers and avoid oncoming obstacles.
IfStar Wars Jedi: Survivor’s sequel is going to continue to double down on open-world areas like Jedha and Koboh, then giving the player a speeder bike as a new method of traversal just makes complete sense. Though it would take some real effort on Respawn’s part to get it right, a speeder bike could be a major improvement to the nextStar Wars Jedi’s open-world gameplay, adding new depths to both combat and traversal, and maybe even environmental puzzles.
