Kijimi is one such planet, and it’s one that’s already been confirmed to be inStar Wars Outlaws. And while Kijimi may not be the most well-knownStar Warsplanet, it is a location that fans have seen before, and it’s got quite the tragic story behind it.
Star Wars Outlaws' Kijimi Planet Explained
Where Fans Have Seen Star Wars Outlaws' Kijimi Before
A frigid planet littered with snowy mountains and ravines, Kijimi was first introduced in the novelStar Wars: Force Collector, where a young Force-sensitive adventurer seeks out an ancient Jedi artifact hidden somewhere on the cold planet. But just a month afterStar Wars: Force Collector’s release in November 2019, fans would receive their first on-screen portrayal of Kijimi, and by far its most memorable, withKijimi appearing inStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
InStar Wars: Rise of Skywalker, Rey and the rest of her Resistance crew find themselves on Kijimi in an attempt to bypass C-3PO’s programming barriers which are stopping the droid from translating the ancient Sith dagger they found. There, the gang teams up with an ex-flame of Poe Dameron’s, Zorri Bliss, the leader of the local Spice smuggling faction. The Resistance’s mission is abruptly cut short when Kylo Ren appears, goading Rey into a duel and resulting in the Resistance crew having to rescue her andthe Wookie Chewbaccafrom Kylo’s flagship.
Kijimi Has a Dark Future in the Star Wars Universe
Though Kijimi has only appeared a few times in theStar Warscanon timeline, fans do know a little about the planet’s history, and its ultimate fate. A thousand years before the events ofStar Wars: Rise of Skywalker, Kijimi was a sacred site, with the local religious group called the Dai Bendu constructing a monastery in the heart of Kijimi City. Over the next few hundred years, Kijimi City would be raided constantly by mercenaries and bandits, forcing the monks to leave their holy ground.
During the era of the Galactic Empire, Kijimi was a known hotspot for the galaxy’s criminal underworld, with it being home to some notorious Spice smuggling factions. WithStar Wars Outlawsbeing set betweenEmpire Strikes BackandReturn of the Jedi, it seems pretty likely that players will find themselves involved with these Spice smuggling gangs. After the fall of the Empire, Kijimi remained a hotbed for galaxy-wide criminal activity, and due to a lack of resources, the New Republic simply left the system to its own devices.
During the reign of the First Order, Kijimi became one of the faction’s key outposts. Though the First Order tried to stamp out any criminal activity on the planet, Zorri Bliss led a smuggling ring from her residence in the Thieves' Quarters. Following the Resistance’s involvement with Kijimi, a somehow-returned Emperor Palpatine ordered the destruction of the entire planet of Kijimi, using a new “Planet-Killing” Star Destroyer to complete the task.
