AFallout 4player has shared bizarre footage of a glitch that causes NPCs to swim through the streets of the Commonwealth. Swimming isn’t exactly a massive component ofFallout 4, making this even weirder to see.
Over the years,Fallout 4has seen many weird bugssurface in the community. It’s an accepted part of Bethesda’s releases that they’ll be buggy to some degree, and for the most part, gamers accept that.Fallout 4featured a variety of funny bugs, with nothing really game-breaking to speak of. The community isn’t always so forgiving.Fallout 76stands as an example of a game that was released too buggy for the community to justify, resulting in a backlash that the company had never seen before. Hopefully with future releases, Bethesda takes as much time as it needs to ensure its games are up to standard.

Redditor MelodiaNocturne posted the interesting footage, as they attempt to barter with merchant Lucas in the street of Boston. The entire time they speak to him, he’s swimming in the air. The clip ends in the funniest way possible, too. The two say their goodbyes, as Lucas swims off into the distance. The physics inFallout 4just seems to have issues cohering with reality at times. For example, anotherFallout 4glitch showed a gunner attacking without a head. While these are two separate glitches, they certainly give off a similar vibe.
The thread itself was filled with plenty of jokes about the situation. One user pointed out that asimilar swimming glitch exists inSkyrim, which “now confirms they’re in the same universe somehow!” It’s certainly an interesting theory, but probably not one with much base in reality. No one had a genuine explanation for how this could have occurred, so it seems this will just go down as one of those strangeFallout 4mysteries that goes unsolved.
It’ll be interesting to see whether this glitch makes a return in the upcomingStarfield. It seems thatStarfieldis still being developed in Bethesda’s Creation Engine, and there are some glitches across games from the studio that have been constants over the years. If these issues are at an engine level, it’s very possible that they won’t be fixed forStarfieldand players will get to see them all over again in strange new surroundings. Hopefully, it’s more the odd engine bugs that make a return, rather than the glitches of a break-gamer-saves variety.
Fallout 4is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
