Even beforeSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatewas ever released, fans have always imagined their favorite characters being included in the roster. Some wishes have been granted, such as theinclusion ofFinal Fantasy 7’s Sephiroth.
However, many different fanbases' prayers for characters inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatehave still gone unheard. From wanting Waluigi orSora inSmash Bros., it seems Nintendo has always been reluctant to include some characters for a variety of reasons. Although, with three fighters left unannounced for the newest challenger pack, there is still some hope for fans.

Geno, a character fromSuper Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, was always thought to be another fighter possibility that Nintendo would dismiss for the newest game. That was until yesterday when it was announced that he would be included, but only as a Mii Gunner outfit. The Geno Mii character skin will be available for fans to purchase on December 22 for $0.75.
Geno was actually first released as a downloadable Mii character forSuper Smash Bros.for the Wii U and 3Ds back in 2015, but many didn’t consider that to be good enough. Sadly, the reaction toward fan-favorite characters turning into Mii characters is mixed between the fanbase. Some will take what they can get and are happy that Geno finally got recognition. Other fans are disappointed and think Geno deserves to be his own unique fighter.
Only being included as a Mii fighter isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Some users on Twitter have noted that the details in the Geno costume are a major improvement over the previous counterpart. There are also many other popular characters who have only been included as Mii Costumes such asCuphead, Knuckles, and Sans inSmash Bros. It doesn’t mean that Nintendo doesn’t like Geno; it’s just that with the number of popular characters that are out there, it’s impossible for it to make fighters for all of them.
In a different world, everyone’s favorite character would be their own fighter, and fans would be able to have the matchups of their dreams. Realistically, as big of a corporation that Nintendo is, it is hard for Nintendo to be able to please every single fan base on the planet.Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Starswas released 24 years ago, and Geno has barely made an appearance since then, so it does make some sense why he wasn’t given his own fighter. Hopefully, fans will be able to enjoy everything that theMii fighter costumehas to offer.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimateis available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
