The Capcom Leaks
Evidence ofResident Evil 4 Remakeappears as early as 2020 whenCapcom was the victim of a cyberattack. The hackers, blackmailing Capcom with its data, made demands that the company refused to adhere to, resulting in a wealth of information being released to the public. The leak revealed Capcom’s plans for the future, and since its release, much of it has been proven to be true. For instance,Street Fighter 6, which appeared in the leak, was announced and is expected to be released in 2023.Resident Evil 4 Remakewas also mentioned in the leak, with an expected Q4 2022 launch window.
Unfortunately, that would not be the only data breach that would affect Capcom. In September 2021, a developer was able to access Nvidia GeForce Now’s database where they retrieved a list of hundreds of games. Many of the games on the list were already released, though, interestingly, some were unreleased and then-unannounced titles. This includes games such as aGhost of TsushimaPC port,Monster Hunter 6, aReturnalPC port,Final Fantasy 9, andDragon’s Dogma 2, to name a few. As one might expect,Resident Evil 4 Remakealso made an appearance. Since the leak, some games have been confirmed or have been released, including aGod of WarPC port, a remaster of theGrand Theft Autotrilogy, and, most recently,Resident Evil 4 Remake.
The RE4 Twitter Leaks
The Twitter-sphere has been abuzz with rumors and alleged leaks ofResident Evil 4 Remake’s existence for ages. One of the most prominent sources of these leaks is from DuskGolem, a notableResident Evilleaker. In May 2021, DuskGolem claimed that Capcom was hard at work onResident Evil 4 Remake, which it had codenamed ‘Chainsaw’, adding that the studio had taken criticisms ofResident Evil 3Remaketo heart. DuskGolem also argued that while an exclusivity deal with Sony was in the realm of possibility, it was unlikely becauseResident Evil 4 Remakeis a large-scale project. For the most part, DuskGolem’s information seems to have been correct, as the game has been confirmed as a multi-platform release.

Leaks on Twitter have also come from D.C Douglas, a voice actor who claims to be involved withResident Evil 4 Remake. In November 2021, theconcept art of Albert Wesker, who Douglas claims he will be voicing, was shared online. Since the leak, Douglas has deleted his Twitter account, and the leaks from him have not been confirmed by Capcom. It is not yet known whether Douglas will feature inResident Evil 4 Remakeand what role Albert Wesker will play.
The Capcom Clues
Although Capcom is usually secretive about its upcoming project, it does have a habit of dropping occasional hints, especially when it comes totheResident Evilseries. Although it can be fun for gamers to try and decode cryptic messages from the studios, they can occasionally leave more questions than answers. This occurred, for example, in August 2021 when Capcom tweeted out a message stating “4. Itchy. Tasty.,” which some gamers have interpreted as aResident Evil 4 Remakehint. However, the line originally appears in the firstResident Evilgame, and it could just as easily have been a nod to it.
Another hint came during Sony’s PlayStation Showcase, which took place in September 2021. The show featured a live-action trailer that shone the spotlight on some of PlayStation’s most popular games. Gamers noticed that the trailer contained plenty of hints about upcoming games and updates, although they were hidden pretty well. For instance, Aloy can be briefly seen in aFall Guyscostume, which predates her appearing in the game. In the same trailer, the symbol for theLas Plagas parasiteis visible. It first shows up inResident Evil 4, which led some players to speculate that its appearance in the PlayStation Showcase trailer was a hint from Capcom.
Although slim on details, the trailer forResident Evil 4 Remakereveals that all the leaks were not too far from the truth. The upcoming games appear to follow the story and atmosphere of the original game, with characters likeLeon Kennedyand Ada Wong making a return. However, as the vastly improved visuals illustrate, longtime fans of the game will still have a new experience.
The upcoming release ofResident Evil 4 Remakeproves that theResident Evilfranchise is still flourishing, and gamers are still ready for more of its toe-curling scares. In addition toResident Evil 4 Remake, gamers can also expect aPS VR2 port ofResident Evil Village, making the horrors of Castle Dimitrescu feel even more real. Although the cat has been out of the bag for a long time regardingResident Evil 4 Remake, it does not mean that Capcom does not have a few tricks up its sleeve, along with a few surprises that could still terrify gamers.
Resident Evil 4 Remakeis scheduled to release on 13 July 2025, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
