A small detail inThe Last Of Us 2’s final showdown between Abby and Ellie makes it even more tragic.Ellie’s story inThe Last Of Us 2is already a massive rollercoaster of ups and downs. From her introduction in the first game as a teenager to her growth as a mature adult, the trials and tribulations she has faced filled the backstory of both games so well that fans still look to the smallest details for more.

As such,The Last Of Ustranslates well on the small screencoming from a video game. The first season of HBO’s adaptation proved to be a hit, and the follow-up season is reportedly underway, with fans expecting that the deep conflict between Abby and Ellie will be tackled. Since the second game has a lot of memorable moments between the two, their dynamic will most likely be heavily featured. One tense dramatic moment that most gamers will be looking forward to is the last fight between the two characters.

A Reddit user has pointed out a very interesting small element inThe Last Of Us 2during Ellie and Abby’s final showdown in the water. A screenshot shows Ellie losing the switchblade that she has had since the first game. Those keen on the particulars know that the weapon was a gift from Marlene, who told Ellie that it belonged to her mother, Anna. A very sentimental piece connecting Ellie and her mother has been permanently lost in the sea possibly adding more drama to the story.

WhileEllie’s mother wasn’t really a highlight inThe Last Of Usgames, she does appear in the prequel comics, as well as the TV show. One could say that the bond that the mother and daughter share runs through the switchblade. Losing the only item connecting them both might put Ellie in a deeper dramatic state that the story could explore even further.

Ellie’s mom was originally part of a planned DLC forThe Last Of Us, but that idea was scrapped earlier on. However, it could be a theme that the developers could explore should they look into ideas forThe Last Of Us 3. The series is full of flashback scenes which have helped flesh out the backstories of both games, so this isn’t an idea that’s out of the park. Hopefully, fans can find out the fate of Ellie’s switchblade and its effect on her should a sequel come out in the future.

The Last of Us Part 2is available on PS4.
