The Last of Us Part 2shifts the player’s perspective between protagonists. Ellie and Abby’s narratives intersect throughoutThe Last of Us Part 2, with each character moving around familiar locations at different points in time. This has led to confusion concerning a new detail found by a fan.
Conflicts inThe Last of Us Part 2are separated into faction groups that have a particular affiliation, such as the Fireflies fromThe Last of Us, or the Seraphites. But the game gives players perspective into multiple characters from each group, and players are then able to empathize with them. Interestingly, an eagle-eyed fan has found named references in the town at Jackson County, Wyoming, to characters that do not make an appearance there in the game.

A fan by the name of Caitlin has usedThe Last of Us Part 2’s dynamic Photo Modecamera to move overtop of an NPC in Jackson, and look at what is written on an assignment list that they are holding. Caitlin has noticed that the assignment list names deuteragonist Abby Anderson and supporting character Manny Alvarez. At first glance, this may seem like an elaborate Easter egg meant for players to find. But other details aboutThe Last of Us Part 2’s narrative suggest that the names are included in this list for a reason.
Fans who understand the significance of Abby and Manny potentially being in Jackson know that they would not be there with wholesome intent, and so the detail has generated discourse about what this reference means. Fans have speculated that Abby and Manny’s names may have been on a list in Jackson because of a scrappednarrative idea forThe Last of Us Part 2. Fans suggest that one of Naughty Dog’s original plans had Abby and Manny infiltrate Jackson undercover as they made plans to get close and kill Joel after gaining his trust.
However, Caitlin claims that the list is simply a reused asset that may also be found at the Forward Operating Base at WLF headquarters. If so, it would appear that the list is not purposely meant to connect the characters to Jackson after all. Another fan who goes by the name Molly has seemingly confirmed Caitlin’s suspicions, stating that the list can be found at the hospital.
Further, Abby and Manny’s names on the list are directed to report to Isaac. Isaac is one ofThe Last of Us Part 2’s antagonists and the leader of the Washington Liberation Front, which Abby and Manny are affiliated with. This may confirm that the list does indeed belong to the WLF and not Jackson. Either way, fans continue to demonstrate carefulinspection intoThe Last of Us Part 2’s detailsand Easter eggs.
