It’s hard to imagine that, come next year,The Last of Uswill turn ten years old, but with a strong sequel being release in 2020, it’s a series that is still having an effect on the fan base, with the original 2013 title being considered something of a masterpiece. Asone of the best games of the PlayStation 3 era, it’s surprising that there hasn’t been a remake of it. However, it seems as though that may not be the case, as it turns out that a PS5 remake of the game may be coming sooner than people think.
According to a report from VGC, it’s possible that a full remake ofThe Last of Uscould be coming to the current gen system sometime this year. Industry insider, Tom Henderson, tweeted that the game is “nearly finished” and that a release date may be set for the second half of 2022. The report adds that this ties in with information that was received from additional sources which seem to claim something similar.

It needs to be said at this stage that these are only rumors and nothing has been made official just yet. In fact, despite talk of aLast of Us remake being in developmentgoing back as far as last April, Sony has not yet made a statement about the project being in the works. The initial report came from Bloomberg, but not much else has been said about it since, it seems. What’s also being reported is that Naughty Dog itself is working on the remake, or at least leading the project. In general, it’s worth not holding one’s breath just yet until something more concrete comes to the fore.
On top of that, the studio’sNeil Druckmann teased numerous games at CES 2022, matching with previous news about Naughty Dog hiring for “upcoming AAA games.” While not much else was said, this very well could relate to theremake.
Last year’sThe Last of Us 2won multiple Game of the Year awards, so it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the first game get a remake for this generation. However, given the success of both releases, many are clamoring for a third installment in the franchise. But with remakes being in vogue at the moment, it’s possible the studio would want to get something out for the PS5 this year, while it continues to work on additional projects for future release. Again, that’s just speculation at this stage.
