With the release of both the Xbox Series X/S and the PS5, there were a number of launch titles making the rounds towards the end of 2020. While the PlayStation 5 got a fairly robust selection of titles, Microsoft has just one larger launch game inThe Medium. TheBloober Team’s newest project has had enough financialsuccess that some are wondering just how long it will be a console exclusive. Currently only available on the Xbox Series X/S and PC, there is at least some talk that it could eventually land on the pS5 as well.
Since the game’s launch, Bloober hasvoiced its appreciation for the Xbox Series X/Sas the only console platform it currently exists. The title’s producer, Jacek Zieba said he’s impressed by even the lower-end Series S’s ability to runThe Mediumat a rather high quality. Despite the development team apparently being plenty happy only being on Microsoft’s platform, there’s always the chance it would like to see the game eventually find a wider audience.

There are several ways to read into recent comments from Zieba and others. On the one hand, they’ve made it clear thatThe Mediumcan only run on next-genconsole hardware. That seems to rule out any kind of backward port to the PS4 and Xbox One. However, some in the gaming community have taken the very specific “next-gen” comments as not entirely ruling out the PlayStation 5.
In an interview just ahead of the game’s launch, both Zieba and lead designer Wojciech Piejko played things close to the vest when they were asked outright about a port. Both said they were focusing on theXbox Series X/S and PC forThe Medium. However, neither did they entirely rule out the PS5. Instead, they said that gamers would have to “wait and see.”
It has been pointed out that when Bloober first launchedBlair Witch, it was an Xbox One console exclusive. Several months later, it found its way to the PS4. Some believeThe Mediumcould follow that path.
Having launched less than a week ago, the fact that Bloober has already made back its development costs could bode well for an eventual PS5 port. Had the game struggled on the Xbox Series X/S and the PC it seems less likely the development team would consider an entirely separate version of the game. The added benefit of generally favorable reviews and a composite score of 76 on Metacritic lend some credence to talk aboutThe Mediumeventually coming to the PS5.
