The Outer Worldsdebuted in 2019 and was well-received by critics and fans. Its positive reception even led to the release of two DLCs;Peril on GorgonandMurder on Eridanos. The former released in September 2020, while the latter released this month. Both DLCs require players to solve mysteries, but the circumstances of each story vary.Peril on Gorgonrevolves around the Spacer’s Choice corporation, whereasMurder on Eridanosrevolves around Rizzo’s. Both additions have unique plots, but the setup is pretty much the same save for one key component.
The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgontakes players to four unique locations; Ambrose Manor, the Gorgon asteroid, the Olympus Orbital Pharmaceutical Station (O.O.P.S.), and the back bays of Groundbreaker.Murder on Eridanos, on the other hand, keeps players on the planet of Eridanos the entire time. Plot-wise, both instances of travel make sense within the context of the stories being told. However, the lack of travel inMurder on Eridanosleaves the door open for the future ofThe Outer Worldswith two unexplored planets still on the Halcyon map.

Additional The Outer Worlds DLC
As far as players know, and as far as Obsidian Entertainment has announced,Murder on Eridanosis the last DLCto be released forThe Outer Worlds. It may be pure speculation, but it’s possible that solving the murder of Halcyon Helen might not be the last thing the Stranger does as far as DLC goes. Players may explore a certain livable portion of Eridanos’ atmosphere in the latest DLC, but it wasn’t the only previously unexplored place in Halcyon.
Hephaestus and Typhon are both still locked on the map, and now that both DLCs have been released it’s clear that they aren’t part of either plotline. The developers ofThe Outer Worldshave confirmed thatthere was a cut planetfrom the final product of the game. Judging by the descriptions of each planet, odds are Hephaestus was the planet that was cut initially. Once any technical errors withMurder on Eridanoshave been fixed, it’s possible that the developers could repackage whatever storyline was scrapped from Hephaestus and release it to players.

The Upcoming Outer Worlds Sequel
Conversely, it’s possible thatMurder on Eridanostruly was the end ofThe Outer WorldsDLC. However, there’s still reportedly a sequel toThe Outer Worldsbeing worked on. Prior to the release ofPeril on GorgonandMurder on Eridanos, it was possible that the sequel could start on any of these unexplored locations. Now, players aren’t sure whereThe Outer Worlds 2will take place. It could be in the Halcyon colony, or somewhere else entirely.
IfThe Outer Worldssequel stays in Halcyon, it’s possible the unexplored planet of Typhon would be a good place to start. The map may say there’s nothing for the people of Halcyon on Typhon, but players know that everything isn’t as it seems in the colony. It’s possible a group of people who opposed the Boardwent to live on Typhon, much like the situation of the Iconoclasts on Monarch. It would be an interesting perspective to explore in the narrative, with players’ choices dictating how much faith is put in the Board.
The Greek lore of Typhon would create an interesting backdrop as well. Instead of players only encountering wildlife like mantisaurs, raptidons, and primals, Typhon could supply more monsters to fight.Typhon was the father of all monstersin Greek mythology, so it would make sense to have tons of new deadly creatures to fight on the planet. It would also remedy some player’s complaints that there isn’t enough combat variety in-game.The Outer Worldssequel likely won’t debut for a long time, but players can still enjoy the original game now. The DLCs also add an extra layer of intrigue to an already fun game.
The Outer Worlds: Murder on Eridanosis available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
