Summary
After the controversialFallout 76and multiple delays, players were a little skeptical if Bethesda could truly deliver withStarfield. Some players feared that the studio had lost its way a bit, especially as it kept re-releasingSkyrimin lieu of a new game. While not all those fears have been alleviated, the release ofStarfieldhas shown fans that the studio has not lost its charm. The game is easily one of the best sci-fi RPGs in years, and it has once again shown players why Bethesda is one of the biggest names in the genre.
Now that Bethesda seems to have renewed players' trust, it is time for Xbox to go all in on the studio. Specifically, it feels like the perfect time forthe rumoredThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivionremaketo finally hit store shelves. While nothing has been announced yet, it would make perfect sense for the studio to remake this classic fantasy RPG. Now is the Best Time for Oblivion to Return
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivionmay havebeen overshadowed bySkyrim, but it still has plenty to offer RPG fans. The story is still one of the best that Bethesda has written, the open world is beautiful, the characters are a joy to interact with, and it has everything that fans of the genre could want. Because of this, it is still considered one of the greatest games ever made. However, the studio has done almost nothing with it besides a few re-releases. That needs to be rectified, and one of the best ways to do that would be through a remake.
Now that Bethesda has releasedStarfield, it will likelyput all its resources intoThe Elder Scrolls 6. That game was announced back in 2018, which should mean that it is pretty far into development. Apparently, that could not be further from the truth, as the game was allegedly still in pre-production as of June 2022. That means that it will be a long time before players will be able to get their hands on it, so they will need a Bethesda RPG to bridge that gap.
Starfieldwill likely take players a long timeto fully get through, plus Bethesda has a next-gen update forFallout 4planned and there is a strong chanceSkyrimwill get another re-release down the line. While that all sounds great, players deserve something more than re-releases, which is where the rumoredOblivionremake comes in. The last time that game got re-released was in 2011, making it the perfect time to revisit the expansive RPG.
Nothing has been announced yet, but Virtuous Games is allegedly working on thisOblivionremake. The studio is known for helping remaster and update games for newer hardware, as well as for lending support to AAA studios. It has helped develop games likeThe Outer Worlds,Final Fantasy 16,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, andThe Callisto Protocol. It is currently co-developingMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, with the rumoredOblivionremake apparently aiming for a 2024 or 2025 release.
Nothing else is known about the project, but the potential alone is extremely exciting.Skyrimhelped create a new generation ofElder Scrollsfans whileStarfield’s Xbox Game Pass launch has likely introduced even more players to Bethesda RPGs. This has created a massive market waiting for a new experience, and they should not have to wait untilThe Elder Scrolls 6. There has never been a better time forOblivionto make its grand return, so hopefully these rumors are true.
