The Simsfranchise has never known occult creatures like it did withThe Sims 3: Supernaturalexpansion pack. Released in 2012, this expansion added witches (or wizards), werewolves, fairies, and zombies toThe Sims 3, allowing players who loved more outlandish Sims stories to howl at the moon (so to speak) with tons of new gameplay opportunities. WhileThe Sims 4has already seen the return of witches and wizardsthanks to theRealm of Magicgame pack, the game is still missing two beloved occults that should return again.

WhileThe Sims 3: Supernaturalwas by no means a perfect expansion, it certainly tried to be. ManyTS3expansions tried to do too much in one pack, leaving it seemingly unpolished and too big for its own good. However, with a little fine-tuning, werewolves and fairies could make a successful comeback inThe Sims 4via a game pack.

Fairies in The Sims

WhileThe Sims 4introduced a fairy costumewith theSpooky Stuffpack, it’s definitely not the same thing as having actual fairies in the game. InThe Sims 3: Supernatural, fairies were both elegant and tricksters who loved to play pranks on unsuspecting Sims. They had a hidden skill called “Fairy Magic,” which could be advanced by playing pranks, whether it was leaving hair dye in the shower or casting a spell on a Sim. Fairy Sims could also return to their “natural form” by shrinking down and entering a Fairy House to relax or party.

The Sims 4could easily addfairies into the game and improve upon the foundation ofThe Sims 3: Supernatural. CAS (Create-a-Sim) inThe Sims 4is already advanced from its predecessors, especially in regards to the vampire and mermaid form customizations that players have access to. It would be easy to set up the same mechanics for fairy creation, allowing players to customize the type of wings and other specialty “fairy” looks that a Fairy Sim could have in tandem with their “normal” Sim look.

Fairies use magic as well, and are gifted animal caretakers and gardeners. The “magic meter” has already been introduced in-gamethanks toThe Sims 4: VampiresandRealm of Magicgame packs, and could easily be altered to accommodate Fairies. It would be a good move to combine fairies and werewolves into one game pack DLC, though, for one crucial reason—they’re both influenced by moonlight.

Werewolves in The Sims

As many people know, werewolves transform during full moons, butThe Sims 3: Supernaturalalso inherently tied Fairy Sims’ abilities to the moon cycle as well. Having them both under a “Moonlight” game pack would make sense because werewolves and fairies are both explicitly affected by the moon phases, whether it’s Fairy Sims’ powers or Werewolf Sims’ transformations.

Unlike fairies, werewolves were introducedtoThe Simsfranchise inThe Sims 2: Pets. InThe Sims 3: Supernatural, werewolves transformed based on if it was a full moon, and not each night as inThe Sims 2: Pets. Players were also able to control when their Werewolf Sims transformed—unless it was a full moon and a mandatory transformation. Werewolves also built up their athletic skill faster than “normal” Sims, and always won in fights because of their strength.

As far as base game updates go,it would be beneficial forThe Sims 4to introduce the moon phases and body hair CAS modifications for all players to use. Some players have been campaigning for body hair to return to the game for awhile, so introducing werewolves along with it would be a good move. Players who enjoy occult stories could create werewolves with similar customization mechanics as vampires and mermaids, but other players who want Sims with hairy chests could benefit as well.

The Sims 4: Paranormalstuff pack is right around the corner and full of ghoulish delights—who’s to say werewolves and fairies might not make an appearance next?

The Sims 4: Paranormalwill be available January 26 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
