Summary

WithDiablo 4now in its third season, titled the Season of the Construct, players have gotten a good feel for the game and how it should ideally be played. AlthoughDiablo 4has undergone some changes in terms of class balance and mechanical reworks throughout its three seasons since launch, the overall gameplay loop has remained largely the same. As a result, the community ofDiablo 4fans has developed a set of unwritten rules it’s recommended that players follow in order to ensure they have the best experience possible when tackling the threats found in Sanctuary.

Most of these unwritten rules will be widely applicable to all players jumping into the game, regardless of which ofDiablo 4’s five classesthey choose to play. While each class will come with its own set of unwritten rules for its specific gameplay style, there are still several general rules that should serve as guidelines for universal success. It’s not necessary thatDiablo 4players follow these rules, but they are good to keep in mind and have been part of the formula for success that players have followed across the past three seasons of the game.

Diablo 4’s Unwritten Rules for Success

Always Have an Elixir Active

Regardless of if a player is playing on theEternal Realm or the Seasonal Realm, leveling up a new character can take some time and mostDiablo 4players will want to reach the endgame as soon as possible in order to start finding the best loot. As such, an easy way to speed up the leveling process is to always have an Elixir active, since all Elixirs grant an additional 5% XP bonus while they’re active, on top of whatever other buff they provide. Players can craft Elixirs by visiting The Alchemist, but they will need to make sure they have the appropriate ingredients that can be collected while exploring Sanctuary.

Explore the World of Sanctuary Thoroughly

In addition to collecting the resources needed to create Elixirs, there are a multitude of benefits to exploring the map of Sanctuary inDiablo 4. WithDiablo 4being the first open-world entry in the series, Blizzard has incentivized players to take their time traversing the map to uncover secrets like theAltars of Liliththat grant permanent stat increases to all characters a player creates. It’s also important that players reach all corners of the map to unlock all of the waypoints needed for fast travel to different locations, since having the ability to warp to a specific point around the map can be crucial for ensuring players can reach timed events like World Bosses.

Don’t Invest in Too Many Basic Skills

A common mistake manyDiablo 4players make when starting a new character is investing too many points in Basic Skills early on. It can be tempting to put Skill Points into unlocking Basic Skills in the game’s early levels since different nodes of aDiablo 4class' Skill Treewon’t unlock until players have invested a certain number of Skill Points. However, the best practice is to choose one Basic Skill and upgrade it until the Core Skill node becomes available, after which players can choose one or two Core Skills to heavily invest in.

Spend Gold Wisely in Diablo 4

Collecting gold dropped from defeated enemies can be a satisfying experience forDiablo 4players, but most players are better off saving that gold than spending it right away. While it might seem like a good idea to purchase new armor and weapons from merchants using gold gathered from around Sanctuary, players should instead save that gold until the endgame, when they can use it for imprintingLegendary Aspectson their ideal gear. Getting new equipment during the early and mid-game ofDiablo 4is fairly common, so it’s better to just use the strongest gear found while exploring than spending gold on gear from a merchant.
