The Witcherseries is full to the brim with some memorable characters, and nothing comes to close to encapsulating this than the legendary witcher who ended up mentoring a ton of aspiring students in the School of the Wolf — Vesemir. Easily one of the oldest and most knowledgable witchers of the lot, Vesemir’s presence acrossThe Witchergames was very much palpable, making his deathduring the Battle of Kaer MorheninThe Witcher 3all the more memorable as a result.

That being said, there’s no denying the fact that there are several facts about his character that fans of the video games aren’t exactly aware of. These aspects of Vesemir’s character are present in the books, with the following ten points being the most interesting of the lot.
10He Was Claimed By The Law Of Surprise To Be Trained As A Witcher
In a manner similar to how Ciri was adopted by Geralt, Vesemir’s path to becoming a witcher started with him getting claimed by the Law of Surprise to be enrolled in the School of the Wolf.
Under Barmin’s tutorship, he ended up becoming a legendary witcher who would serve as a guardian for what would remain of Kaer Morhen after the pogrom.

9He Survived The Sacking Of Kaer Morhen That Pretty Much Destroyed The School Of The Wolf
During one of the many pogroms that hit the Continent, Kaer Morhen was assaulted by an angry mob that included powerful mages as well. As a result, the group of witchers couldn’t handle the assault and was almost completely wiped out… save for a few survivors.
This person was none other than Vesemir, and while he definitely played a huge role in cleaning up Kaer Morhen as much as he could, the School of the Wolf had been permanently crippled after the pogrom.
8He Received A Baby Named Geralt Outside Of Kaer Morhen By His Mother, Visenna
Geralt’s mother has been quite a mysterious figure, either mentioned in passing or shown for the briefest of moments.

Vesemir was lucky enough to interact with Visenna firsthand, being handed the child that would grow up to become the famed Geralt of Rivia. Given the fact that this child grew up without his actual parents around him…
7Geralt Considered Vesemir To Be His Father
It’s hard to imagine Geralt with any abandonment issues, which makes it clear that the witcher had a pretty fulfilling and devoted guardian around him all along.
Vesemir was a strong and influential figure in Geralt’s life, growing him properly and teaching him all the skills he would need to flourish in his trade. Geralt has no one but Vesemir to thank for becoming the man he is… even though he didn’t really have any choice in choosing his fate, to begin with.
6He Whipped Both Geralt And Eskel Once When They Played Around With A Bumblebee As Kids
That being said, Vesemir didn’t shy away from any disciplinary actions when his wards ended up crossing a line — something thata bunch of budding monster huntersare bound to get into.
A rather notable incident came when Geralt and Eskel started playing around with a giant bumblebee… only for an irate Vesemir to brandish a leather strap and whip both the children for their gross incompetence.
5He’s Kept A Rather Dark Keepsake — Namely, The Table Where Young Boys Turned Into Witchers… Or Died
While the idea of being a witcher might sound great, the truth of the matter is that the experiments involved in becoming a witcher were nothing short of barbaric. Most young boys died beforethey could undergo the mutations properly, and the slim few that survived ended up being destined for a life of hardship.
So, to keep the table that the young boys were experimented on as a keepsake is rather odd indeed. For what it’s worth, Lambert has called his tutor out for keeping this table.
4He’s Stated That Experimenting With Children Is His Biggest Regret
However, there’s a solid reason as to why Vesemir has kept such a dark keepsake with him all this time — it’s a reminder of what he considers to be the worst thing he’s ever done in his life.
There’s no way to justify the act of taking young children and forcing them to go through horrifying experiments that have extremely low chances of succeeding.
While Vesemir considers Triss to be part of the family — something he stated directly when Triss was staying at Kaer Morhen and player a pretty major role in nursing Ciri back to health — there’s a rather odd encounter they had that should be mentioned.

In Blood of Elves, there’s a rather odd momentVesemir is supposedly welcoming Triss back to Kaer Morhen… only to “accidentally” touch her buttocks.It’s quite awkward, showing that Vesemir hadanother side to himthat most people around him were unaware of.
Given the fact that Vesemir was one of the few survivors of Kaer Morhen’s destruction and has built a home here for many people important to him, it’s only a given that he’s extremely attached to the place.
So, he’s willing to fight tooth and nail to stay here, regardless of what other people might say. Both Eskel and Lambert have raised doubts about staying in Kaer Morhen, but Vesemir has been stubborn in his need to stay in this historic keep.
1For A Witcher, He’s Heavily Invested In Worldly Matters
Generally, witchers are meant to be neutral and not get invested in the ways of the world. Morality is a concept that is alien to mutants with muted feelings, so it’s better to stay mum on the matter.
That being said, Vesemir has been an exception to this rule. He has constantly been in support of the North and King Radovid.It’s a rather idealistic notionthat is quite unexpected in a witcher who’s meant to honor the code and not get personally affected or invested in matters.
