One of the things that madeThe Witcherseries so popular is its complexity. Even when the characters do their best to make good decisions, sometimes they have to choose between the lesser and bigger evil. The world ofThe Witchersimply isn’t black-and-white, and all three games made sure to stay true to the books in this area.

As such, there are plenty of morally ambiguous, ruthless, or downright evil characters inThe Witchergames. Considering how much damage they do or their motives, some characters' ruthless actions stand out in comparison to others. Despite the damage they did to the world or the heroes, the fans still liked to learn more about them thanks to the way their stories were written.
5Gaunter O’Dimm
Even though he pretends to be a simple vagrant and a merchant, there’s much more to Gaunter O’Dimm than meets the eye. He’s one of the most powerful beings inThe Witchergames, if not the most powerful one. Even Geralt isn’t able to kill O’Dimm for good, he only banishes him to the realm where O’Dimm came from, knowing that sooner or later, Gaunter will be back. Not only is the mysterious Man of Glass powerful, but he’s also ruthless. Gaunter likes to punish those who commit bad deeds in his eyes, but more often than not, the punishment doesn’t fit the crime.
For example, he transforms an arrogant young woman into a monster for decades and ruins her life. Gaunter doesn’t respect human lives as he demonstrates by killing a drunk man whose worst sin was interrupting Gaunter’s speech to Geralt. By doing favors for others, Gaunter assures that sooner or later, their souls will be forfeit. He’s the closest being to the DevilinThe Witchergames.
4Whoreson Junior
Whoreson Junior is only human, not a demon or a mage, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s a ruthless individual and a serial killer. Whoreson is one ofthe crime lords of Novigrad, and he’s the evilest of them all. When he thinks that Ciri betrayed him, he kidnaps her close friend Dodo and mutilates him, poking out his eye. Whoreson Junior is also infamous for bringing young women, and lots of young prostitutes to his house, and killing them. When Geralt goes to see Junior, he sees that Junior has been mutilating women who reminded him of Ciri, murdering them in cold blood.

Unlike his father, Whoreson Senior, who had at least his love for the arts and poetry as his redeeming quality, Whoreson Junior is a one-hundred-percent despicable human being. As such, most players don’t have a hard time deciding what to do with him when Geralt faces the dilemma of killing Junior or letting him go.
3King Radovid
One ofthe most difficult choices the players have to make inThe Witcher 3is deciding who’s going to emerge victorious as the new ruler of the Northern Realms. King Radovid is seen as the worst option by many. Radovid is mad, as the game repeatedly demonstrates. His hatred toward all things magic blinded him and made him into a fanatic. If it was up to Radovid, he would kill every single person in the world that he suspects of practicing sorcery, including innocent healers. If he survives, the Northern Realms turn into a land of oppression and death under Radovid’s rule.
Radovid’s even crueler to those who personally insult him, or so he believes. He orders his men to kill Geralt after the witcher had previously helped him and also has the sorceress Keira Metz impaled on a stake in Novigrad if Keira goes to negotiate with him. King Radovid is as ruthless as they come and with the armies under his disposal, he can do even more damage than the likes of Whoreson Junior.
2Letho Of Gulet
Of all the witchers who play a bigger part inThe Witchergames, Letho of Gulet is the most ruthless one. Letho is as close to a witcher mercenary as the games offer. He best demonstrates his lack of respect for human lives inThe Witcher 2when he takes onthe task to assassinate King Foltesteven though he must be aware that his actions will have huge consequences on the world and everybody in it.

Letho isn’t all bad, as he helps Geralt fight the Wild Hunt at Kaer Morhen inThe Witcher 3if he’s still alive by then and Geralt asks him for his help. That doesn’t change the fact that in comparison to Geralt who always seems to take people’s well-being into consideration, Letho is much more ruthless and pragmatic when it comes to his actions.
1Imlerith
Between his king Eredin who appeared in two of the games, and Imlerith, it’s initially difficult to decide who’s more ruthless. In the end, it’s Imlerith since Eredin is more pragmatic and seemingly willing to negotiate with people, as long as they do what he wants. Imlerith, on the other hand, seems to enjoy bringing his enemies down.
He proves this whenhe kills Vesemir in front of Cirieven though he has the witcher in his grasp and could easily stop him without taking his life. By hurrying to kill Vesemir, Imlerith unknowingly helps Ciri to find the strength she needs to stop him for the time being. Sometimes, it would work better for Imlerith to cast aside his ruthlessness and think more about his actions, like Eredin seems to have done.
