A video posted to the channel ofTikTokstar Operation Hangover reveals that the channel’s creator, David, has recently passed away. TikTok has seen a fair amount of controversy throughout its lifespan with the China-based platform seeing heavy criticism and focus from the US government. Politicians have attempted to lobby for the platform to be banned multiple times with the most recent coming in the form of the"Anti-Social CCP Act" introduced earlier this month. Now, news has come out of a popular TikTok creator sadly passing away.
Operation Hangover first debuted onTikTokearlier this year with the channel, as the name would imply, featuring creator David drinking a variety of alcoholic drinks. David often streamed through the channel chatting with viewers while he enjoyed drinks like Four Loko and Fireball, as well as taking the Paqui “One Chip Challenge.” During his time on the platform, Operation Hangover amassed over 10,000 followers through his livestreams with fans praising his positive attitude. Now, David’s sister has informed fans of the creator’s passing.

In a video uploaded to Operation Hangover on Tuesday, David’s sister informed fans that the creator had sadly passed away since his last video. David’s sister often appeared alongside David in videos on the channel, now informing fans that a GoFundMe campaign has been started in order to secure funds for David’s burial. Fans in the replies to the video shared their memories of Operation Hangover’s past videos, referring to David as “a great guy” and fondly remembering impressions and jokes he had made in previous videos. Operation Hangover was not the first major creator to tragically pass away this year, withbeloved TikTok user Cooper Noriegapassing away earlier in the year.
She, however, had fewer kind words for fans of the account, laying some of the blame on the creator’s apparent suicide on the back of the fans. The Operation Hangover creator’s sister was critical of fans for “helping to kill her brother” and “funding his suicide,” asserting that fans should be responsible for helping with the fallout. Fans were critical of the sister’s attitude towards Operation Hangover’s followers in the video’s replies while expressing their condolences for the family’s loss. TikTok has previously seen criticism from users over its protection of creators, beingsued over the controversial “blackout challenge.”
TikTok has been no stranger to controversy since the platform’s debut, related to its potential connections with the Chinese government. The platform’s creator, ByteDance, was confirmed earlier this year to have a stake in thecompany’s ownership purchased by the Chinese government. TikTok has also been accused of censorship in the past, claiming the platform had attempted to censor videos related to controversial topics like Tiananmen Square and Tibetan independence. While the platform has seen plenty of contention, TikTok remains a popular social media outlet for many users.
