Liu was recently onstage at the Havdalah & BBYO Honors Ceremony where he played a silly, supportive voicemail that Holland had left him after he watched the film. Liu held his phone up to the mic for the audience to hear. Holland says, “Dude, I just watched Shang-Chi bro, that film is so f****** awesome.” The audience was barely able to contain their excitement about the two stars showing admiration for one another. Liu was beaming with the biggest grin, ear to ear, when he shared the clip as well.
Liu, who is also a professional stuntman, stars as the main character inShang-Chialongside co-star Awkwafina, who plays his best friend, Katy. The two were tasked with the challenge of unraveling the many mysteries behind the Ten Rings organization. Holland and Liu are now both members of the MCU family, which only further guarantees the possibility of more random voicemail or text exchanges to be found in the future. The young actor has been witnessing his fair share of success and praise as well, particularly for the long-awaitedSpider-Man: No Way Home, which has recently claimed the third spot on the list of highest-grossing films of all time at the U.S. box office.
Holland has also received a lot of love so far surrounding the release of his latest film,Uncharted. Overlapping somewhat when it comes tothe complicated MCU timeline, bothShang Chi and the Legend of the Ten RingsandSpider-Man: No Way Hometake place within phase four of the MCU. Both films have raised the bar and expectations quite high for fans when it comes to the MCU’s future. Although a potential crossover doesn’t really make sense other than timing wise, it seems both actors are looking forward to someday collaborating together.
Asequel and spin-off series forShang-Chihas been confirmed by Marvel Studios. Yet, it’s still highly unlikely either would feature a potential Spider-Man crossover. However, given the multiverses that were explored inSpider-Man: No Way Home, a crossover down the line might just be possible.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsis now available on Disney Plus whileSpider-Man: No Way Homeis playing in theaters.
